A sacrifice bunt is used in baseball by the player at bat by sacrificing an out by making contact with the ball to advance a baserunner any base after 1st(scoring position) in hopes that the following batter gets a hit to drive in that baserunner home.

If a player is on 1st, you can hold down the Y button and direction your contact with the ball to either side of the field before the pitch. Also helps if you give the runner a lead before the pitch.

The bunt will not be considered a sacrifice if you are doing this with 2 outs(against CPU) since the batter will register a third out.

One more thing to note, a foul ball on an 0-2 count with a bunt is considered strike 3 so be careful. If your batter has low bunt attributes he may just strike out, foul or popup.

I Ebon Hawk II advanced a runner from first to second base using a bunt. The bunter was thrown out and the runner advanced, but the achievement didn’t pop. Not sure why it’s not working for me. Also, this seems really hard against the CPU even if you adjust sliders. I’m going to try boosting it in online multiplayer.

Test1I’ve done this successfully multiple times in Diamond Dynasty but no unlock. I am sure it will work in another mode but just a heads up to this oddity.

PatriotsMike111@Test1 - I was having some difficulty with it, even in Exhibition mode. Released I wasn't sac bunting, was drag bunting - pressing Y after the pitch release. As a relative newbie to baseball, took a while to twig lol

Hello, ladies and gents. Today we are looking at the "Sneak Attack" achievement in MLB The Show 21. The video below will cover everything you need, but if you prefer, I will explain in text as well.

Firstly, the wording of this achievement implies that the bunt will only count for the achievement if you are moving a runner from 1st to 2nd, or from 3rd to Home to score a run. It says you need to move a runner into scoring position, OR score a run. A runner on 2nd is already in scoring position, so sac bunting them to 3rd does not count as either stipulation for the achievement. It MAY just be written poorly, but keep that in mind.

A sacrifice bunt is named that because it is a bunt that moves up a player on the basepaths but gets you thrown out, thereby sacrificing your plate appearance for the good of the team. There are situations where players being safe are still sac bunts, but if we go into each individual situation we could be here a while, so I'm trying to keep it simple.

To bunt, you hold the Y button. We're going to attempt to get a runner to 1st base, and then steal with them while bunting to advance the runner and get ourselves thrown out.

To start, go to Settings - Settings - Gameplay and make sure Pitching and Hitting difficulties are at 'Beginner' and that GamePlay Style is 'Casual' under General settings. Back out and apply these changes if needed.

Now head to sliders. These are the important ones:

Dynamic Difficulty - all the way LEFT
Human Foul Frequency - all the way LEFT
EVERYTHING else Human - all the way RIGHT
CPU Foul Frequency - all the way RIGHT
    CPU Starter/Reliever Stamina - default
EVERYTHING else CPU - all the way LEFT
Fastball/Offspeed Pitch Speed - matter of preference. I prefer the faster speed, but for most its probably best to turn these all the way LEFT
Baserunner Speed and Steal Ability - all the way RIGHT
    Nothing else is important

Press A a few times to accept and save the sliders.

Go to Exhibition Mode. Pick the team on the right, find the San Francisco Giants, and hit LB until they are the Flying Squirrels. Now, choose the left team and pick the LA Dodgers (you can use any team you want, but the Dodgers have a VERY GOOD leadoff hitter in Mookie Betts, and since we are trying to get on base, it helps to have a good hitter starting).

Uniform and Stadium do not matter, but pick Fast Play for Presentation mode. Everything else is fine as is. Pitcher is irrelevant, make sure Mookie Betts is leading off (if you picked the Dodgers) and press Menu/Start to begin the game.

We are going to attempt to hit ourselves on to 1st base. There are a few things to know beforehand. Bunting and missing with 2 strikes will be a strikeout, but all things considered, its not the worst. Sacrifice bunts cannot happen with 2 outs, so if you get to 2 outs, restart the game and try again. Since we are the away team, a restart instantly put Mookie Betts back at the plate.

If you hit a ball in play that would result in a double or triple, hit the RB button when the batter is at 1st to stop them there(I believe this is true no matter what baserunning style you choose). Once you have a batter at 1st base, we are good to go.

When you return to the batter window, hit the LT once to prepare your player on 1st to steal. Then hold Y as the batter. This isn't foolproof. The pitcher may pitch out or your hitter may be bad at bunting. If anything goes wrong, just repeat the steps above after restarting. But the runner on 1st should take off toward second and if all goes correctly, your hitter will lay down a bunt and get thrown out at 1st, getting you the achievement.
