  As you playthrough the game you will encounter a character holding a lantern and it will assign the side quest called mirage. They spawn in random locations, but fairly frequently.
  
  Chase down the character with the lantern before they disappears, you will then be required to perform a quick fight. Win or lose the fight you will receive an upgrade. You will need to repeat this 4 times.

  Is there some trick to get the NPC to spawn? I found him once early on and have since finished the main story and the majority of achievements without seeing him again.

  Got the first 3 spawns without issue and now 3 times in a row I've had the character spawn and run up to him only for monsters to come from out of sight and start a battle and he disappears... hahah.

  It was over 10 hours in before I got the first one. But then got the other three after about 15 hours, all in less than an hour.

  Only found one during my whole playthrough, then searched for about 10 hours in post-game and new game plus... nothing. I ended up loading a random mid game save and then found all other 3 within 20 minutes, in the "green" areas (northwest-ish and south from the tree of life)
