How to unlock the Dust in the Lens achievement

    *Edit*
It appears as of August 12th, the achievement SOMETIMES unlocks in Free roam and not during blueprints. I may try and make a fresh blueprint just to see if a new one makes a difference.

Allegedly it might only unlock during the Spring season for the game and NOT in custom events with the season set to Spring.

    ------------------------------

Nighthawk205's description is super solid but I made a blueprint to simplify things. Press start, scroll to Creative Hub, click EventLab, Event Blueprints, Search, and enter the share code 514 524 330.

Hook a left at the start, follow the path, and take a photo with the satellite dish in the shot and the achievement will unlock.

While you can't control the weather in freeroam, you can if you make your own blueprint.

For reference, the Gran Telescopio is on the North side of La Gran Caldera volcano and is the giant satellite dish. You can head to any nearby race (events such as Danger Signs do not work) and start your own blueprint. Just drive up to the offroad areas next to the Gran Telescopio while creating your blueprint and place your end point anywhere around there. In the blueprint options, make sure you change the weather to dust storm!

When testing the blueprint, just go into Photo Mode by hitting cn_up and take a photo while near the Gran Telescopio. I was slightly downhill and it didn't work, so I'd recommend being right up next to it. You don't need to capture the entire thing in your photo. Right after taking the photo, while it's saving, the achievement should pop.

An easy race to unlock that's nearby is Dunas Blancas Sprint, which opens up after you unlock the Apex outpost (blue ones). You can just drive Southeast uphill and it shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

Nighthawk205@Becker SWE: The achievement is buggy and not unlockable right now, which is why it has the Discontinued flag! From Wizard WC's comment on a different solution, they mentioned that Playground is aware that this isn't working at the moment, so hopefully it'll be patched soon.

KGI KlikoNLThere are still a bunch of recent winners, so maybe people take the picture wrong? Further I know now this week is the week, dust storms appear ingame naturally.

As of December 2022, all of the guides above, that mention getting this achievement via the Event Lab Blueprints are invalid and no longer work. This method has been patched out of the game by the developers.

The only way to get this achievement, as of December 2022, is in FREE ROAM and you’ll have to wait until the Festival Playlist is in the SPRING Season. In the Summer, Autumn/Fall & Winter Festival Playlist, this achievement is absolutely not obtainable! (Note: Trying an Event Lab Blueprint in the Spring season, will not work either).

When it is SPRING, you’ll need to simply drive around in FREE ROAM until you see a dust storm (aka, a massive brown sand cloud in the sky). Annoyingly, this can take a while - but in my experience dust storms occur mainly (if not exclusively) in the DUNAS BLANCAS area (far left side) of the map, most likely due to the visibility of DUNAS BLANCAS from the telescope side of LA GRAN CALDERA mountain... and the fact that the entire area of DUNCAS BLANCAS is basically made up of sand!

Anyway, once you spot a dust storm, immediately fast travel to the GRAN TELESCOPIO on the top of LA GRAN CALDERA mountain (just to the right / East of DUNAS BLANCAS). When you load in, just hit cn_up and take a picture that includes some of the telescope (it doesn’t matter which side / angle of the telescope, or, and this is the ridiculous part, if you can actually see any of the dust storm cloud in the picture itself or not??!) and the achievement will pop immediately!

This achievement basically pops when a dust storm has spawned somewhere on your map (whether you can see it or not), when it’s SPRING, and you’ve taken a photo with at least a tiny part of the Telescope in it… As such, it’s technically possible to keep randomly rinsing and repeating fast travelling to the telescope in SPRING and taking a picture of it, over and over, and have this pop at some point (if you don’t want to specifically wait to see a dust storm form in your game), which explains some of the surprised comments on other guides to this achievement stating that it popped ‘randomly’ when talking a picture of the Telescope in Free Roam - all of these comments were made during SPRING (in game) and will have happened when an unseen dust storm was in effect somewhere on the player’s map coinciding with the time they took the picture.

tuhin94Thanks for confirming. Weird question, what time did it show up? Mostly interested how close it was to the top of the hour as I’m trying to see if there is a pattern based on recent unlock times.

Zorc freeksIt was around 5pm-5:30 pm I believe, eastern time. I thought someone might ask that question :'). Just idle while doing some work and check every couple minutes.

tuhin94Thanks. I managed to unlock it a few hours prior. For what it’s worth for anyone going through this guide (again, I agree it should be the top guide now), it seems like dust storms might spawn between HH:50 to HH:00 and HH:20 to HH:30.
