The stick is the first weapon you will find in the game. By following the linear path after starting the game, you will come upon what appears to be a cave or house with a mailbox out front. When entering the "cave"/house there will be a chest containing the stick which will be your first weapon. Upon opening the chest and picking it up the achievement should unlock.
