Shortly after first coming into contact with the red root like things, you'll need to use the lights/lamps to clear them. You will soon enter a room with two lights/lamps that you can rotate, use them to clear the roots so you can progress forward but before exiting through the door that'd be on your left, look in the draw on your right to find the book
