  I obtained this by completing the side quest: Follow the Butterflies. It can be obtained from Clementine Willardsey in the Three Broomsticks after finishing the main quest: Potions Class. Simply travel to the marker in the Forbidden Forest and follow the butterflies as they lead you to a chest. The achievement should pop once you have received the treasure inside of the chest.

  I veered off to the spiders and the poacher camp and was still able to get the chest, so must have just been an unlucky glitch

  I have followed the butterflies to the treasure in both the main story and in the open world but it won’t unlock, why is this?

  yes i have the same - i have "completed the quest" as in its done on my quest list but no trophy. Which probably also means i also can't get 100% collectables either per other posts.

  Eventually you'll start encountering Butterflies and their distinct Butterfly icon on the map. Simply walk up to a Butterfly Icon and you'll be warmly greeted by a kaleidoscope of Butterflies. Follow the direction they take and try your best to stay as close as possible. After a couple of minutes walking, they'll eventually stop and reveal a hidden chest. Open the chest and the achievement should pop.
  
  A side-quest for Clementine Willardsey will also appear in the "Three Broomsticks" pub once you have completed your first lesson in the Potion Class. During Clementine's quest you'll also need to follow Butterflies to a hidden chest.

  This guide can be missable if you skip side quest. To get it you need to talk with Clementine Willardsey in Butterbeer Bar in Hogsmead village. I did it after the Troll attack. The quest is pretty straight forward. Someone said the quest can be bugged, so make sure to save it before talking with Clementine.
