You don’t need to have the Altair armor for this. Progressing through the game will unlock different blades and upgrades.

    They are:

Blades – Dual Blade, Poison Blade, and Pistol. All given to you by Leonardo.

Item Pouches- The three types of pouches are Medicine, Knife Belt and Poison Vial. Each has a large and a medium size, you need both. These are purchased from the tailor.

Armor- Leather, Helmschmied, Metal and Missaglias (every armor has 4 parts). These are purchased from the blacksmith.

cerafino has already provided an excellent list of the individual upgrade pieces required for this achievement.

The full sets of the (purchasable) armor will cost approximately 150,000f. If you have spent money renovating the blacksmith's shop in Monteriggioni, you can save a good deal on those purchases. The first three pieces of the Missaglias armor become available around the time of the beginning of DNA sequence 9, and the final piece becomes available upon completing the sequence. However, the missions in this story line bind you to the city in which the missions are set, so you cannot take advantage of the savings in Monteriggioni if you want these pieces immediately.

The final hidden blade upgrade (pistol) also becomes available during this mission strand.

The large version of each of the pouches costs 6000 florins. If you purchase the large pouch before purchasing the medium (small) one, you can save the 3000 florins of the purchase price for the small pouch, and still get the achievement. The last of these upgrades also becomes available around the time of DNA sequence 9.

The fastest ways to accumulate wealth are to perform some renovations in Monteriggioni and wait, finding (and dispatching) Borgia messengers, or to perform assassination side missions. Borgia messengers yield 1500 florins, and assassinations are usually 2500.

DraconicPharaohYou can leave the city you are in at any time and fast travel back to the Villa - just go to a travel station and 100 florins later you're there - at any point in the game where you aren't actively involved in a mission at least.

iksolokosGreat guide. I couldn't figure out why I didn't see the final piece of Missaglias armor in shops. Now I know, thanks man!

It's easier than what everyone has said. You only need to purchase the best of what you can ever get. This means the LARGE medicine pouch, knife belt upgrade, and LARGE poison vial from the tailor and the MISSAGLIAS armor set (four items). Nothing else. No other capes or weapons or blade upgrades (you'll have them by this point).

I never purchased any armor or pouches I didn't need to, but when I could finally buy the full Missaglias set, I went all out. YMMV, but let us know in the comments.

The soonest you'll be able to unlock the Missaglias armor will be after finishing DNA Sequence 9 (masquerade). To make money, invest in Monteriggioni. Purchase your items there if you have upgraded the shops—they'll give you a discount.
