The description of the Achievement doesn't specify this, but it must be earned in the Commodore 64 version of the game - it will NOT pop playing the VIC-20 version, even if by some miracle you do complete level 32 in it. I discovered this the hard way.

I'm writing this guide mainly to point out that issue, but I might as well share my strategy while I'm here (thankfully, the 64 version of the game lets you have a strategy; the VIC-20 version feels like a crapshoot at that level):
    • First of all, in case this wasn't obvious, start on level 32. (Once the title screen fills with text, just press cn_down once to set the starting level to 32; you can save before starting and then reload that save after each failure rather than waiting for the title screen each time.)
    • Start by immediately heading to one side of the screen - whichever you prefer; on the way there, try to kill the first three or four spiders from that side, adjusting the force field as needed. I just hold in the fire button the whole time, but ideally you want to time/position your shots to hit those spiders directly, rather than let them drop - you're heading to where they'd fall.
    • Once near the edge, lower the force field as far down as it goes, and continuously fire (just hold the button, don't mash it) into the side of the screen such that your shots bounce off the edge, then off the force field, then impact the ground behind the llama - the closer behind, the better, but when in doubt (or if a spider is threatening to land on your head), go closer to the side of the screen, not further away. What you're hoping to do is pick off the steady stream of weevils (what the spiders become when they land) that will be approaching.
    • Based on positioning/timing, you can expect that eventually a weevil will sneak in past where your shots are landing. When this happens, don't give up yet - walk forward (away from the weevil, natch) and off the side of the screen. The llama will warp to the other side. Turn around to face the edge and keep firing into the crowd from there; if they get inside again (which can be instantaneously), warp back. Repeat switching sides - and never stop firing - as long as you can manage to avoid them.
    • The level is won when 48 total enemies are defeated, no matter how many are left on the screen when that happens (or how close they are to you!) - the Achievement should pop right away. You do NOT need to meet that quota in one life; you have all three lives' work added together to make that happen. Thirty or more in one life is not unreasonable, so don't be hasty to reset - believe in yourself, and good luck!

swillerThanks for the tip on the VIC-20 version. I was playing that one too!
