On my first play through I failed pretty miserably about 10 times and I lost my previous save so I was just stuck at the boss fight, forcing me to continue to fail or to replay the whole game from scratch. It's not a bad game so I decided to play through it again and this time I beat it twice, once for each ending. The second time, I did it a little quicker, learning from the first success (and the previous failures) so I decided to share my strategy.

    ***Warning Major Spoilers***

Before you go to the research facility, you may want to level up Tobias a bit. He will be doing the final boss fight alone. Most of his weapons/armor/stats are pre-determined for the final fight regardless of what you do but leveling him up seemed to help with his strength and defense. (But then again maybe i just played it smarter. If you save at the right point you can always try the boss fight and if you fail then go back and level him up and try it again.) The easiest way to level Tobias up is to enter a battle and make everyone defend for every turn and just let Tobias make the kills. He will level up pretty quickly in just a few map replays. Also, make sure he knows Holy Protection and Greater Shield. You will need these for buffing. I wouldn't worry about any of his other abilities as the finial fight is almost pure melee with his sword that he will receive.

Phase 1: The first stage of the boss fight you will have a chance to turn the 5 little orange fire demons to blue flame demons, but only if you are the one who strikes the killing blow. The flame demons become your allies when they turn blue. Most are useless beyond being able to cast a healing spell but some can cast Healing Rain, Ice Comet, and Greater Shield which becomes very useful later on.

When fighting the little fire demons, make the blue flames use only their healing spells. Tobias will always be the priority for healing except in the first round or two while you are still outnumbered, then you will want to focus your healing on the blue guys - because a blue guy can't heal Tobias if he is dead. Once the blue flames are at full health, begin to use each turn to heal Tobias and when Tobias is at 80% health or better, start healing any flames that are low on health. Keep in mind that one blow can do as much as 250 damage so don't let them get below that. Keep the relatively grouped and you will occasionally find a blue flame that can cast Healing Rain, which is very helpful. Never use the flames to fight during this phase unless everyone, including Tobias, is at 100% health and, of course, never let them make the killing strike. On the first round, Tobias should cast Holy Protection. After that, he should fight the flame with the lowest health on every round, unless he needs to rebuff. On any turn that he can't make it to an enemy in 5 squares (his move limit without using Mobility - which is a waste to cast on this board), move close to that enemy and use a buff spell. Use every advantage you have to get this over quickly, i.e. Elevation, Backstabbing, Team Attack, etc.

Phase 2: Large flame demon. There are 3, fight the one where the first 5 little flames appeared. If you have enough blue flames, surround him and use melee attacks and ice comet. If you didn't convert enough (at least 4/5 of them), just let Tobias do the melee and have the flames heal/buff on every turn. He has about the same HP as Tobias so it will take 3-6 turns to kill him.

Phase 3: When you kill the large fire demon you will get 5 more little demons. Then you will change your strategy and go back to Phase 1 and let the flames heal and buff and let Tobias use melee to convert the orange fire demons. At the end of this round, you should have between 7-10 blue flames.

Phase 4: Two large fire demons left. One will be buffing and the other will be ready to fight. Do not go for the one thats buffing. (He will look like he is taking a big poo.) Your hits will be worth 0-1 point and on his first turn he can instantly kill Tobias if Tobias is standing next to him. Sometimes it's hard to tell which is buffing so take one flame to the left guy and one to the right and attack. If you get 0 points on one and 50-150 on the other then you know which one to go for next. If they are both buffing, wait it out a turn and just heal your group and rebuff yourself. Once you know your next target, surround him and attack, but always keep healing a #1 priority!

Phase 5: More little orange guys. Use blue flames for healing and use Tobias for melee. You don't need to convert 100% of these but it helps, especially if you have lost any others along the way.

Phase 6: Any blue flames that have exhausted their magic are the ones to use in attacking first, keep the other guys back for healing. This is true in phase 4 as well but applies even more here. Some of my guys only got 1 HP of damage on the last flame while some of them got upwards of 150 but having the final large flame surrounded by 7 blue flames and Tobias and having two Ice Comet casters standing a few squares back made the damage add up since I now had about 10 turns to his 1. I think I finished him off somewhere around round 20.

On my first play through, I played more conservatively and used the blue flames for healing ONLY in every phase and it took 31 rounds.

This is a long boss fight but it's really not that hard, especially once you get past the first two - four rounds. Just remember to keep the blue flames healed, even when its tempting to heal Tobias, especially at first! It just takes patience and a little strategy in moving your guys around the matrix, but it's actually really easy.

Please give me a thumbs up if this was helpful. thanks!
