This one is time consuming, but easier than it sounds.

UPDATE - Thanks to KungFuStu72 and Darth Morbus, we reckon don't go off the number in the Stats section as during the course of the game, you destroy 23ish pirate freighters that don't count towards this achievement.

TO CONFIRM - the achievement should pop when your counter reads 123ish if you do this achievement after completing the game.

You don't need to "rob" the Cargo Ships, just blow them up.

I'm not 100% if you even need to destroy them, but I DO know that the "Supervillain" achievement didn't pop when it dumped its cargo, but it did when I destroyed the Superfreighter. So, better safe than sorry.

To find them, jump into a system, check your Target List for ships called "Parim Cargo & More", or basically anything with a name that sounds like a company - they show up as a Freighter in the lower left of your screen. You tend to find them flying into or out of a system with a Hunter escort, or 2 or 3 of them sitting alone outside the Trade Stations.

The absolutely EASIEST way is to wait until the end of the game with a pimped up Darkstar One, then head back to the Terran Systems (due to the very easily destroyed police). And set the difficulty down to "1" in the options menu.

Stock up on repair/boost items, pick any system you like (take note if it is a Rebel, Neutral or GU planet, so you can jump to a different system if things go south) and go to town. Your turrets won't target the Cargo Ships, so you need to use your bow weapons on them. Your turrets WILL wipe out any police pretty sharpish (they constantly launch from the Trade Station as you destroy them), so all you need to worry about are the Hunter escorts.

My technique was to close on the convoy, target the Freighter, blow it up, then activate Plasma Shield, kill thrusters and take the hunters out one by one, then save.

You can save at any point, and I noticed that sometimes, your shields are recharged when you reload the game. Your wanted level will shoot up, which means that you'll be getting cruisers called in on you every few minutes, so deal with them, bearing in mind you can shoot out their turrets after you take their shield down.

You could also wait around the Trade Station any Cargo Ships that arrive leave their escorts, making them easy targets. If things get REALLY hairy, don't forget you can communicate with the Trade Station and press Y to pay off your fine (from 350,000 to 650,000) and then land. If you don't have the money, fall back to the Warp Gate, wipe out any pursuers, then jump to a friendly system. There may be bounty hunters waiting for you, so beware!

You could, of course, play as a pirate and get it without going on a kill crazy rampage...

So, simply put, you just need to destroy the freighters, you can completely ignore their cargo.

To add to what others have already said. Here are 2 Pro Tips for this achievement.

Pro Tip 1: The bottom of any Trade Station is safe. If you want to escape anyone from shooting at you while your shields recharge just circle underneath the trade station. As you do so, have your turrets lock on and shoot down any passing enemies. If a military cruiser reaches a Trade Station this will be the easiest way to take it out.

Pro Tip 2: To lower your Criminal Record head on over to a different Territory ie. Terran to Mortok, Thul to Raptor. Repeat this 3x and your 5 star wanted level should disappear. This proves easier to do once you obtain the Zero Point Drive which you receive after you collect all the artifacts.
