The skill upgrade system in MorphX is important and arguably the most fun part of the game, but how to do it isn't explained very well at all.

Just think of the genetic manipulation in MorphX as a puzzle game where you have to connect green train stations to red train stations with train track pieces. The train tracks (such as they are) are found in the green cocoons throughout the game; press Y to gather them.

By pressing the Back button on the controller, you'll bring up the gene manipulation main menu screen. On this screen are all the upgrades you've found so far. Select one with the left thumbstick and then press A.

On this new screen are a bunch of dormant green and red genes (train stations). On the right-hand side of the screen are all the train track pieces you've found so far.

To start, use the right thumbstick to select a puzzle piece, and use the left thumbstick to move the cursor around the grid. Put the cursor next to one of the genes and press A to place the train track. Rotate the piece with LB and RB so that an open end is touching the gene. The puzzle piece will change to the color of the gene when it's connected.

Now, connect another train track piece to the end of the one you just added; like we did with the gene, make sure the opens ends of the pieces are touching each other. Always try and use straight and curved pieces as much as possible; save the three-ended pieces for later. Once again, rotate the pieces with the bumpers until they change color.

If you want to swap out a track piece or change its position on the grid, press A to highlight it and then push A again on the grid space you want to put the piece in. If you want to change the piece with a new one entirely, highlight the piece and then use the right thumbstick to choose the piece you want. Then hit A. Pieces already on the grid can be switched around like this also.

Keep your tracks efficient; always use the shortest path between two stations and don't use three-ended pieces if you don't need them.

Eventually you'll create a link between a red and green station. You'll know it worked because the track will glow bright yellow and the connected genes will awaken and pulsate. Doing this will upgrade a skill too.

Once you have a train track (or tracks) created, you have to link them up to the other stations to increase your skills even more. Linking a solitary red gene to a red gene that's already connected to a green gene won't work though; you have to connect isolated genes to yellow tracks by making another track. This works exactly as described above, only now you have to use the three-ended puzzle pieces in your tracks to make multiple connections. You may have to change out straight pieces in your existing tracks with three-ended pieces in order to make the tracks connect. As long as the tracks turn yellow and the genes awaken when multiple tracks are linked together, you're good.

After you've messed around with genes for a while, press the B button to go back to the manipulation menu screen. Around the upgrade icons are a series of dots; the green and red ones indicate that genes in that power are connected, while grayed-out dots represent genes that aren't connected yet. When all the dots are colored, every gene in that power is connected. Alien Vision has just five genes, so if you're trying for this achievement that will probably be the one you'll want to tackle first.

Having as many genes connected as possible makes the game a lot easier since you'll have bigger health and energy bars, and your attacks will be more powerful. You'll also get more goodies from health and energy stations, and dead bodies.
