I don't know why but I had a hard time with this for whatever reason; even after doing the majority of the English campaign i failed this mission several times before finding a solution so I figured maybe I could save some of you the time by posting how I was able beat it.

WHAT WORKED FOR ME: after I got my ass handed to me and was returned to army camp I disbanded all units except for the archers they start you out with and just recruited as many peasant archers as I could. I think it left me 150 gold which i used to equip a few squads with falchion swords (even archers can cause a stubborn enemy to flee when flanking).

With this setup have 4 squads on each side (see below) advance towards boths sides to get in range of the longbowmen, destroy them and then the majority of your foes are without shields and are easy prey for your archers. Use your general on the lefthand to distract the enemy archers while ur crossbowmen get in range. IMPORTANT STEP: Continue to advance in range of the next groups of soldier and if they get in melee distance retreat the squad while the other squads continue to rain hell (archers do much less damage if the enemy is engaged in combat to avoid combat at all cost to allow archers to decimate unshielded foes) That step is most important because if u don't advance quickly enough Joan of Arc will most likely die and u will FAIL. After getting dominated myself at least 2 times in a row i only lost 25 troops when using this method.

If you feel there is a better way or found another way that worked for you please comment so i can improve the solution for the betterment of the TA community! Credit will be given where credit is due.

When preparing to begin your troop formation should look similar to this:
    A: Archers
    G: General
    J: Joan
    #: Empty

    GAAA AAAA
    A ### J ####
