How to unlock the Game completed on Hard! achievement

The difference in difficulty between easy, normal and hard is minimal. Noticeable is only the number of hits it takes to down an enemy. The investigation itself is not influenced by the difficulty.

Once you have beaten a chapter you can replay that chapter from the main menu. Simply use "choose chapter" instead of "continuel". All progress made during a replay is saved into your savefile. This feature can be used to do sidequests which you might have missed.
If you consider this cheating then there is another way to do all quests. Simply go to the graveyard and sleep untill the conditions/time are right. After sleeping on the graveyard make sure to eat from the endless supply of tomatoes.

At first the gameplay seems to steer you toward following the main questline. If you deviate from the main quest then the NPC react somewhat irritated towards you. For example they remark about your lack of teamwork.
My advice is to simply ignore them/this and start doing sidequests. A lot of trading cards can be collected by doing sidequests. Also the rewards from these sidequests will make your investigation easier.
I normally go for the following rewards:
    - Wrench (infinite). Available Chapter 2
    - Weapon Bag. Available Chapter 2
    - 10 mm Submachine Gun (infinite). Available Chapter 6
    - Magnum (infinite). Available Chapter 8
    - Wesley Special (infinite). Available Chapter 8
    - Big Bag. Available Chapter 13

Wrench: this melee weapon will enable you to navigate the normal shades with ease. This weapon is strong and fast. It stuns them before they can attack you. Bossis and wall-crawlers require a ranged attack.
Weapon Bag: enables you to carry more weapons. If you choose not to get this item then you need to carefully manage the weapons in your inventory.
10 mm Submachine Gun: I like to use this weapon untill I can get my hands on the Magnum. The major advantage of this weapon is the enormous magazine with 360 rounds. This weapon quickly kills the shades. In addition it can be used to stun a group of approaching shades. I highly recommend this weapon to finish the final boss fight. Use this weapon when you climb the final boss and have to hit the doll in his chest-pocket.
Magnum: This is my favourite weapon. 2 shots will kill a shade on hard. 1 shot is sufficient on easy. Disadvantage is the small magazine with 4 rounds. Reloading has to become second nature. I use this weapon on shades, wallcrawlers and bosses.
Wesley Special: This is the flamethrouwer in the game. Some people will use this for wallcrawlers. But I prefer to use the magnum against the wallcrawlers. Never use this on normal shades for they will continue to suicide-run towards you. Basically I use this weapon only at one point in the game. I use it in the other-world art gallery to get the green, red and ripe apple from the tree.
Big Bag: this enables you to carry more items. I usually get this because the quest to get it is really simple and short.

The above weapons are not the most powerful in the game. But they are early available and they suffice to navigate the whole game. During the last few chapters of the game some really powerful weapons become available. For melee I like the grasscutter and the infinite RPG is also a nice addition.

The radio is almost a must have for the game. It allows you to fast travel to any areas you have been to before.
The radio can be obtained by picking the "nameless flower" in the rain on the road to the lumbermill (check the map for the flower symbol). Wait outside George Woodman's house until it is 22:00 then knock on his door to start the side quest. Finish the sidequest by giving him the flower.

    Hello deutschZuid,

In my guide I have not discussed the various enemies in the game. As such the method of handling the wallcrawlers is outside the scope of my solution. The other solutions also do not have a list of enemies and ways of dealing with them. The solution by JernauGurgeh SF has a section about dealing with the end boss. Maybe he would like to add your information to his solution.
Alternatively you could make a complete list of enemies and methods and make your own solution. Seeing how you also discuss the behavior on different difficulties you could add such a solution to each difficulty-achievement.

Your description of how to deal with wallcrawlers is correct. Running past them, turning around and shooting them is how I dealt with them. This method I used on all difficulties.
Another method which people seem to like is to use the flamethrower. For completeness sake I have mentioned this in the Wesley Special paragraph.

***PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SOLUTION CONTAINS SPOILERS***

With this guide you can complete the game in less than 8hrs (and that's with me making some errors). Please note that this is not a fun way to play the game - the real charm of this game is built through the side quests and your interactions with NPCs. I think on my first run I took over 10hrs in Episode 1 alone!

I would be interested to know fastest times though. I think it should be possible to get this down to under 6hrs.

I'm assuming that your Hard run will be your second and so you are aware of the general game mechanics. Any specific problems, PM me.

    Notes:

    - All you need for this run is the INFINITE WRENCH, the INFINITE MAGNUM, the WESLEY SPECIAL and the RADIO.

    - The vast majority of enemies can simply by sprinted past. There are, however, some that are required kills for key drops - most notably the zombie cops in the second run through the Sherriff's Office - or to unlock areas.

    - Press start to skip cut scenes, run everywhere and use the radio whenever the game lets you (this is less often than you think!)

    - The Wrench is for all normal enemies. Really fast to kill them.

    - The Magnum if for bosses only. Too much effort on normal enemies.

    - The Wesley Special is only for wall crawlers. If you're good enough with the Magnum then you can skip this too and probably knock 30mins off the completion.

These are the things that you will need to do outside of the main plot line. Ignore everything else.

    Chapter 2
    Side Quest 27 (Anna's House) (12pm)
    Side Quest 28 (Anna's House)
    Side Quest 1 (Becky's House)
Spend the next portion of time getting all bones
However, you will be unable to get tree of Anna bone yet
Pick up flower when it starts raining
    Side Quest 29 (Quint's Trailer) (4pm)
    **INFINITE WRENCH GET**
    Side Quest 4 (Sheriff's Dept)

    Chapter 6
Side Quest 5 (George's House) (10pm raining) - Note that this didn't work for me but it is where I got the radio on my first run. For some reason this time George decided to run around at the parking area at the north of the map. While hilarious this wasn't very useful... If this happens then you'll have to load up Chapter 2 again.
    **RADIO GET**
    Get tree of Anna bone

    Chapter 8
Side Quest 11 (Hotel) - You need to go out of the hotel and then back in to trigger this.
    **INFINITE MAGNUM GET**

    Chapter 9
Side Quest 49 (Albireo Graveyard) - The reason I start this in Chapter 9 is that it is raining in Chapter 8 and I am pretty certain that Brian will not be available.
    Side Quest 50 (Brian's House)
    **WESLEY SPECIAL GET**

Then it's a quick burn through to the end of the game.

    For the bosses:

Thomas - same as on any other difficulty. Aim, shoot, dodge. Rinse and repeat.

George - get close, stand your ground and after dodging use lock on and your Magnum. This works on both 1st and 2nd forms. Get your FBI Special out for the final part of the fight and just keep firing at the axe until you hit it. The fight should only take about 5 minutes.

Kaysen - use your Magnum for all forms. The doll in his pocket is easier to hit than it looks. Even so, it will probably take a couple of tries. Still, will likely take less than 15 minutes to defeat his second (third?) form.

Crimson RidleyThanks for the reply. :) I had already upgraded it, but I won't for my Hard run. However, I'm contemplating grabbing the Guitar on Hard, as it seems to be a pretty awesome weapon (I never got to use it on Easy, as I handed it straight over)! Have you used the Guitar before?
Posted by Crimson Ridley On 27 Nov 12 at 23:58
JernauGurgeh SFAgain no need for the guitar - you do so little fighting that it's really not worth it. Unless you go for it instead of the wrench. It's been so long that I can't remember what side quests you need to do to get it...
Posted by JernauGurgeh SF On 29 Nov 12 at 17:42
Crimson RidleyYou get it from the Milk Barn quests. I went ahead and got it (still had a final time of 5:30 at the end!), but it's wank. It has the worst hit rate of all the weapons, as it's near enough zero. I had to try to attack enemies from the side to even have a chance of landing a hit.

When it did connect, it killed them instantly, but I gave up on it after Chapter 6. Thank you very much for the guide, finally finished Deadly Premonition! Though it's not a tough game to finish, I'm still very proud of it and very glad that I played such a brilliant game!

Get the weather doll (regenerates health), the infinite wrench (best weapon in the game, especially in earlier stages), the infinite machine gun (great later on when you just need to keep enemies away from you which running around them or whatever), the radio (lets you travel quickly to most already-visited locations), the infinite shotgun (great for the penultimate boss), the infinite magnum (great for the final boss), and the Wesley Special (perfect for the wall-crawlers). It's a walk in the park with these. Also, bear in mind that you can replay previous chapters AND you can even replay them on lower difficulties without affecting the achievement. Do this if you're having trouble unlocking the infinite shotgun. If you desperately need food and have nothing at hand, simply replay Episode 01 Chapter 07 and choose to go to the diner, then go straight back to the hotel. If you need sleep, just start Episode 01 Chapter 01, go to bed, then finish the chapter.
