First Strike is the first (thanks tips) DLC for Black Ops. It includes four (4) new multiplayer maps and one (1) new zombie map, Ascension. Now that the basics are out of the way let's see what this has to offer.

All are medium size, which is nice for the game modes currently offered. Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Search & Destroy.

Stadium is a map based on an abandoned hockey rink and office building. For Canadians such as myself, this should be a thrill (any of you Canadians notice the logo on the rink looks somewhat like CBC?). It's the smallest of the new maps I believe and there's not many places to hide so running and gunning works best here.

Discovery is an old base in a snowy area, this will remind you of Reznov's level in the campaign. This map is cool because of all the areas to go in and out of, and there are some bridge areas that can be destroyed and you have to jump over them to reach it, reminiscent of Battlefield which is cool. This in my opinion is the best map for Domination.

Berlin Wall is based in Germany. One side is shops and housing pretty much and the other side is industrial with a pub. There's also a turret field which can (and will) kill you between sides. A lot of buildings to hide in and snipe opposing players from which will no doubt be a favourite for some people.

Kowloon is awesome because you're fighting on the rooftops. You can also trade your gun for a moment to fly down the ziplines which leaves you vulnerable, but if you use it right, can catch an enemy at the end of the zipline by surprise. It's also set at night and very reminiscent of the campaign level....and by virtue of that I think this map should have been free, like Makin Day was in World at War.

SCORE: 9/10

Ascension, one word to describe it - WOW! Treyarch outdid themselves with this one. It is HUGE! Lots of areas to unlock (a pain for the one achievement) and lots of room to run around. It's black and white til you turn the power on, which is a neat new twist. The characters from Kino der Toten are back for this one (sorry President lovers). Space monkeys are annoying little enemies but they're cool as well, they don't come til you buy a perk - which is what they take from you (similar to the Pentagon thief). This one is based off the Launch multiplayer map - the Russian Cosmodome.

There are two (2) new perks in this one. One increases your running stamina, and the other one is like a perk insurance policy (credit to B unit 117 for that, read his comment for more details). There are a few new weapons as well such as the Gertsh device (an achievement for killing five (5) zombies with it) and the Sickle.

SCORE: 10/10

Four (4) new ones to this pack. Easy to moderate difficulty. I had three of them easily on solo, and the last one is multiplayer so you have buddies open the doors for you. Using the landers and killing monkeys with fire traps are easy, and these additions keep the zombies fun. I don't want to go into too much detail about each one specifically because that's what the guides are for here. All in all, should be an easy 150G to add to the gamerscore.

SCORE: 10/10

Final thoughts: At 1200 MSP, it is pricey, but at the same time I think it warrants it (exception: Kowloon). Treyarch in my opinion really outdoes themselves with these maps and I am personally excited for the next content now. The replayability is great after you finish the zombie achievements and you just want and crave more when done with the first pack.
