If the epilogue of Lords of Shadow left fans with more questions than answers, Reverie helps to provide those answers. While short, it served to whet a gamer's appetite for the follow-up DLC coming out later this year.

Story
Gabriel, as he laments over his actions in the main story, receives a telepathic cry for help from Laura, the vampire girl he encountered at Carmilla's castle. Feeling he owes Laura a debt of honor for sparing his life, he returns to Carmilla's castle, where Laura reveals that the Lords of Shadow, as their counterparts of the Brotherhood of Light prior to becoming the Lords of Shadow, sealed away a great evil being known only as "The Forgotten One." But when Gabriel killed the Lords, the seals keeping the Forgotten One in check had weakened to the point that "it" would soon be free and resume terrorizing the Earth.

Gabriel and Laura team up to find a way to stop the Forgotten One, venturing deeper into the castle to chambers long left alone...

But to get to the Forgotten One, a heavy price must be made...

Gameplay
The controls for Gabriel remain the same; however, in two parts, the player takes control of Laura and assumes different controls and abilities. A weaker character than Gabriel, Laura can only shock her enemies with lightning bolts, or drain their blood to restore her health though if her prey turns completely black, they explode and damage Laura. She can defend herself by turning into mist and move across the room or pass through gates to escape to other rooms. In harder difficulty levels, enemies can deal more damage to Laura, especially in swarms.

Each stage in the DLC features puzzles the player must solve to either reach the end of the stage, or obtain vital items pertaining to the story. In teh third and final stage of the DLC, the player must solve three puzzles to obtain orb contianing blood from each of the three Lords, and then solve a final puzzle to pour the blood form each orb or all three to open the final gateway. These puzzles can be either easy to figure out, or a challenge to solve.

There are no boss fights in this DLC, which provides a small breather to the player.

Visual
Unlike the main story, the main cutscenes for Reverie are told in motion-comic format, not CGI. Otherwise the graphics for this DLC are impressive, especially the detailed visuals for Gabriel being eaten by a new, unbeatable enemy underwater.

Overall
Reverie, while short, is an impressive addition to Lords of Shadow, providing further explanation towards what exactly happened to Gabriel between the ending and the epilogue of the main game. And one cannot help but think, given what is being said about the next DLC, Reverie, what will come next to top it all off.
