Nicholson Electroplating is one of the DLC cases for L.A. Noire released on 22 June, 2011. The DLC arson case is a fine addition to the L.A. Noire story and really shouldn’t be missed.

The case begins with Cole Phelps and Herschel Biggs discussing the ongoing case that encompasses the main story. They are filling up their car at the gas station, when all of a sudden a massive explosion and mushroom-like cloud rise over downtown L.A. Like the true heroes they are, they quickly make the decision to drive towards the explosion. Once you get there, you see nothing but a blown out building and 5 square blocks of destruction. That is where your detective work begins.

The Nicholson Electroplating plant crime scene is one of the largest scenes that you will have to explore throughout the course of the game. Over the course of the case you will also encounter Howard Hughes’ massive plane, The Spruce Goose, even getting a chance to go inside it. You will see some familiar locations as well throughout, but most of it does take place in new locations.
This case focuses a little more on action than most cases. There is quite a bit of searching to be had, however you will only ask a total of 6 questions to 2 different people. The case has a very dramatic car chase and one of the biggest shootouts you will endure.

Rockstar’s amazing facial technology continues to shine here as two new characters are introduced. Vernon Mapes is played by Jack Conley, who should be recognizable to anyone that’s seen the TV show Angel or the movie Payback. The owner of Nicholson Electroplating, Fred Nicholson, is played by Ron Perkins. He should ring-a-bell with anyone that’s seen Spider-Man a few times. Both do an amazing job of voice acting.

If you have the Rockstar Pass, this DLC is included with that; so that is quite the bargain. However, if not it is currently 320 Microsoft Points ($4) on the marketplace. If you have a general aversion to DLC, the price may be a little too much. You are getting about 45 minutes worth of game play, many may not see that it’s worth it.

That’s not to say that it isn’t a good addition, it absolutely is. It is a lot of fun to play through but the achievements are a little strange. It only has 5 and 3 are pretty impossible to miss. The other 2 are a slight pain, but easily achievable.

If you love L.A. Noire, you really should pick this up. However, it’s almost certainly a pass for anyone that is ready to move on.
