A little added bonus to the already packed list of DLC for Fallout New Vegas, The Gun Runners Arsenal gives players the ability to wreak new kinds of havoc with brand spanking new toys, and quirky challenges.

The first point I'd like to make about this DLC is that it's probably best to try when you're a high level, as all of the Unique weapons and attachments are VERY pricey (some range from 10,000 caps to 22,000).

There are a lot of cool things to utilize, from fully automatic heavy assault rifles, new melee weapons like the katana and even a more powerful version of the Fat Man Nuke Launcher. The main problem is that while there are plenty of new weapons to try out and cause havoc with you can only test them if you pay a heap load of caps for them. So if I wanted to know what the weapon Bozar does, I'd either have to save the game beforehand and try it, or simply make do with the gun anyway.

The challenges are inventive and genuinely varied and fun to do. Some are fairly simple i.e. kill some fiends with a Double Barrel Shotgun but others directly reference other game franchises (see 'A Slave Obeys') or have you doing something in the game you'd never even consider i.e. killing 5 Deathclaws with a switchbladeshock.

The achievements are fairly easy to obtain, but some challenges can be difficult to obtain depending on where in the game you are. For example if you have played all the DLC, gotten to lvl 50 and sorted out the Vegas Strips power struggles some challenges will be unobtainable due to certain characters being dead, whilst if you are an up and coming waste-lander with no more than a hunting rifle and tire iron you won't be able to complete some of the higher tier challenges until you level up, such as punching Mr Gutsy's to death with spiked Knuckles.

For only 320MS points I think this is a nice addition to Fallout NV, giving players a couple of hours of replayability at the expense of paying about £3/$5. toast
