Saints Row: The Third – Gangstas in Space

This downloadable content takes place during a science fiction movie called 'Gangstas in Space', which focuses on an alien invasion. The film director, Andy Zhen, has requested that you, the leader of The Third Street Saints, are to star in his latest masterpiece.

Gangstas in Space adds three action packed missions to the game, all of which are varied and lengthy enough to keep everything fresh. It is clear from the first scene that this is a movie. There are cameramen everywhere, you go backstage in between sets, and your screen is even overlaid with a grindhouse-esque film reel whenever the director shouts “action!”, making you believe you’re actually in the movie.

The dialogue in the DLC was probably some of the funniest I’ve heard in recent times. Your player, with no movie experience, constantly breaks character, misreads lines and so forth for the entire expansion. It was amusing to hear the director constantly praise you, despite how poor the voice acting of your character was. The same couldn’t be said for your co-star actress playing Kwilanna. She was picked on in every scene for no reason whatsoever.

The length of this expansion is probably what will deter players from purchasing this, however. While very entertaining, realistically it can be completed in an hour to an hour and a half. While the missions themselves are of a decent length, the fact that there are only three of them makes this a very quick DLC to complete.

The weapons you get to use during the DLC are very fun to use, though there are only three of them. Upon finishing the final mission, you are awarded with an alien spacecraft – the Aegean, an alien Scythe, a mind control helmet and some new homies. The weapons used during the expansion are lost and are unable to be used in the main game.

In summary, Gangstas in Space is fun while it lasts, but just like the main game, is finished before you even know it. Is it worth the 560 MSP asking price? Well that depends what you want from it. I personally waited until it went on sale before I picked it up. On the plus side, the achievements are a piece of cake so it’s a quick 100G boost to your gamerscore.
