Hearing people argue what is an MMO reminds me or being in elementary school in the early 90s when kids would argue what is an RPG.
Except that there's things that a game has to have to actually be qualified as a mmo, and 16 players in a lobby isn't enough.

You'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.

I remember when MMO meant MASSIVE - like more than 16 players. Seems developers are getting lazy these days. MMO implies the rest of the term (RPG) otherwise you are simply talking about any game with large online lobbies. Laziness is no excuse. The term has been bastardized and this isn't helping.

World of Warcraft is a MMO (I hate it, but it IS what it is)
Dark Age of Camelot is a MMO (that WoW killed angry)

Destiny 2, Sea of Thieves, even Elite: Dangerous are not close to being MMO's in that sense. All are seriously restricted by the number of gamers that can be in one instance. Yes, ED is a 16 player instance.
You're tripping right?

Although I agree Elite Dangerous is not an MMO but it actually has no restriction to the number of player instances, the problem is that the lag gets so severe after 32+ that nobody would play it.

This video shows a group of at least 100 players in the same loaded space - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9UHd9iMqqk&app=desktop

Do no underestimate the power E:D wink

PC ED is not Console ED. You and I both know that. I suggest you try to gather 17 people in one instance to prove me wrong. FDev have stated console instance limit is 16 gamers.

Bongo (a forum regular) notes the reason as a limitation put in place by MS for P2P games. That explains why server based games like Battlefield can hold more.

Don't profile snoop to put someone down. That's a disgusting behavior.

Other than that, you're correct.

I did read it. That's why I know you was profile snooping to think you had a more important opinion than someone else.

Recently started Warframe, gotta say it's pretty awesome from what I've played and I haven't even gotten very far yet.

Destiny 1 is a much better game than Destiny 2. And Warframe is better than Destiny 2 as well. Basically Destiny 2 is just terrible and this is coming from someone who played the first game for over well 3000 hours.

I definitely don't agree with this list and also don't know why some games are even on this list. Destiny 2 and Sea of Thieves shouldn't be on this list at all. I would consider The Division to be more of an mmo then destiny 2. The way you have to put thought and time into building your character to run end game content or dz, but I don't really consider The Division an mmo. I own ESO, DC:U and E:D but have yet to play them so no opinion on them. I can say though that E:D looks absolutely beautiful, I have watch numerous videos and also twitch and I can't say enough about the game graphically. Neverwinter is an amazing and really fun game to play. Expect one hell of a grind though. Even with the grind, end game dungeons and content are really really good and fun. Warframe is amazing, another solid title. The devs really do an amazing job with this game so polished and tons of fun. I have no idea why Tera isn't on the list, it actually is an mmo and was really fun despite being a shorter mmo. End game can get a little grindy, but with the right guild can be fun. I can't express the hurt i feel not seeing Path of Exile on the list. PoE is just all around amazing imho. It honestly was my personal goty when it came out, couldn't ask for anything more out of it. If you are into rpg's and mmo's i would def recommend Neverwinter, Path of Exile , Warframe and Tera especially being all F2P you can't beat it.

technically Path of exile isnt more of an mmo than destiny is though? actually less
you can meet people in hubs both places. And then you can make small parties and enter instanced maps.
In destiny you can meet people randomly in the overworld areas. In PoE you cant, unless you invite the,.

it IS a great game though, nonetheless.

Path of Exile isn't a MMO in any sense of the word. It's a dungeon crawler where you happen to have hubs that let you talk to other people not currently in a dungeon.
