The real question is, how long can the servers stay live (and you need them to play this "games as a service" game) when they can't make any more money off of it?

Maybe gun media should license Titanic, cause this boat is sinking faster than the one did in FF13th pt8, Jason takes Manhattan.

In theory, they could still make costumes and accessories, as none of those require licensing.

I think they’re hoping this will resolve before they have to shut it down, but are prepared for the worst

That is not what the developers said. They said they can't develop any content.
It seems kinda nonsensical, but then again I'm not a copyright lawyer.
They still can make money off the game though. You can still go to the store and buy everything released so far. Maybe I'll buy the game if its on a deep enough discount.
Also I feel like they should have incorporated the fact that we have a friday the 13th in July into this event.

Wow, this is about the fourth game I'm working on that's having a double xp weekend. I believe Dead by daylight is having double xp as well, which is rare. Looks like I'm going to be a lazy ass, playing games all weekend.

No, that is not at all how licensing works. You can not just put your own stuff into a licensed product if you don't have the license. They can not add so much as a new rock or tree to the game.

Very few people even care anymore. I'm a huge fan of the series and have been my entire life, but Gun Media has mismanaged this game so horribly since release that it's pointless at this point, especially since we're never getting anymore content and, like always, the new patch created just as many bugs as it fixed.

These guys seriously have no idea WTF they're doing as far as being capable developers goes. I'd be surprised if you're even able to connect to a match a year from now, so I'd suggest everybody who has it on their tag get the completion ASAP, because dedicated servers are probably never gonna come. Given their history with the game thus far, they're likely to go silent for another month or two, then come back and release a statement saying they don't have any money for dedicated servers.
Here lies a trite quote from somebody in history you might recognize. It's delightfully witty, yet concurrently incisive, and not at all pretentious.

For what? Their playable game they got to enjoy for over almost a year now? I Kickstarted and even though I stopped playing after a couple months they delivered what was promised, a Friday the 13th game with some free updates.

Better hurry man. You trying to start it everyone else trying to finish it. Achievements like 1000 multiplayer matches as Jason and counselors is tedious. These two alone are next to impossible without dedicated servers or host migration.

Is there even any proof that we need to worry about the life of this game? Have the developers hinted at shutting it down at any point? Not being able to create content is one thing, but not being able to keep the servers live is another. I, too, want to start this game, but am currently focusing on games that have confirmed server shutdowns, and I don't want to start this game to have it stuck on my card for it to go down in the near future and not be able to finish it.

Devs haven't said anything about shutting the game down, but it's a likely scenario given their track record of ineptitude for this game thus far. It launched broken, backer-exclusive items were sold on ebay at a markup for 8 months, the same backer exclusives were then put on the Xbox and Playstation stores for free for a while, dedicated servers still don't exist a year after being promised, they scrapped the promised Paranoia game mode because they couldn't program it properly/make it fun, every patch since the game came out has broken the game even more than it was to begin with, and now the news about no more new content.

To say they're bad at their jobs as developers would be an understatement. They've been taking major heat on their official forums and subreddit for the better part of the last year from unsatisfied customers calling them out on their incompetence, and they've now taken to banning anybody on their official forums who questions their decision making or points out broken promises. This new patch alone has introduced a minimum of 10 new documented bugs.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if they're never going to actually implement dedicated servers for this game and it's just been a smokescreen thus far to try to placate pissed off consumers. In fact, I'd be outright shocked if you can still connect to the online service of this game this time next year.

They've already made $80 million from 2 million sales across all platforms and now have the perfect reason to discontinue all future support by blaming this lawsuit instead of owning up to the fact that they've been in way over their heads with this game since day one.

No there is no need to worry. Some of the more ridiculous of the game's community like to come up with conspiracy theories around the devs. The game will be getting dedicated servers on consoles, and plenty of bug fixes as well. They just can't add new content. There is no need to worry about the game's future for now. It is going strong. Thankfully, this game is a passion project by the people at Gun, so they are really dedicated to it.

But Larry Zerner (who played Shelley in Part 3) IS a copyright lawyer these days, and he said on a podcast recently that there'll be a trial date set for next year to get the rights back so Gun Media and Illfonic can get back to making new content for the game, we just have to see what happens in 2019.
