Buy it?

Is buying this game today worth it considering what I've heard about it since the the release?

Probably not, will end up in ea access probably soon

Would anyone recommend buying the game or should I stay away from it?

It depends.
1000GS is quite easy to gather but little grindy.
There're still some issues with the achievements and no workaround has been found to get them if they don't pop after meeting the requirements.

Beside that, game is quite entertaining but suffers because of the lack of (new) content and annoying bugs. And definitely this early BETA version of Anthem is not worth more than 10 quid.

go for it, it was day one buy for me and i didn't regret it, this game delivered what i expected
don't listen to all the talk about it, just buy it if it is on sale and enjoy it

Buy it if it's 15 dollars.
