When I played this game back in the day it was not unusual to get 90+ on rerolling, or 70-. So far I only got one 90. It looks like Beamdog programmed the game to stay pretty much between 74 and 89. What's the best reroll you got?

EDIT : after rerolling for far too long I finally got 93 which I will stick to, after wasting like five 90s, one 91 and one 92.

93 after half an hour or so on my Berzerker, but 18/05, went 92 and 18/9X. It depends on your class though. Much easier to get higher with those that have min stats such as Palladin. (Rolled 96 fairly quickly there, but opted not to run one after some character selection paralysis!)

I usually held out for 92 or 93 if power gaming with a full dump stat, or leaving two at 10. Been so long since I ran without mods it was nice to roll again!

So I bought the game last night and made a character. I just made a boring fighter, and I'm not at all convinced that was the right choice. In the past I used to play mages, but I didn't want to be "Always the first to die.".

Anywho, my question is: It's been a long while since I've played these games or any AD&D. What does the number after the / mean? My fighter was 18/67 or something. I don't know what the /67 means.

It only applies to warriors. At 18 strength a further roll is made on 2D10 (one for the first digit one for the second) giving a value from 1-100. (18/00 being 100). You got additional bonuses based on this. I find weight to be more useful that the damage and THAC0 bonuses to be honest though.

There is a tome in chapter 6 that will take you to 19 STR, so if you are going for the whole series then it doesn't really matter.

As an aside, a pure fighter is pretty poor late game, though great in BG1 one. If you enjoy a mage and you're Human you may want to consider Dual classing to a Fighter>Mage at level 9 (13 likely too late for a first timer). This is assuming you have enough INT.

Mages start very poor, but they are godly by the end game and will rarely take any damage with all their protection spells. Having a few levels of fighter before dual classing mitigates their worst downsides with little loss.

Playing a human fighter with a 99 roll.

    18/99 str.

Wondering if I should stay mono fighter or duel to mage later. Can’t really remember how the duelling works.
