One person's extreme dislike of a game does not make it a bad game. Ethan is actually a pretty fucking good puzzle game. It's totally fair to say that the time challenges are really frustrating when you have to move blocks around to really precise locations quickly. It's a good puzzle game, but bad block moving game.
But seriously, most puzzle enthusiasts I know liked Ethan. I gave it a 5 (probably a bit generous, but I really liked the puzzles and the platforming), SnapDragon gave it a 3.5/5. It certainly has problems, but to say "don't buy this fucking game, it's one of the worst 5 games ever" comes off a bit immature to me. It's one thing to strongly dislike a game. It's another thing to not be able to recognize that it has good puzzles and maybe he just wasn't smart enough to figure them out. Not trying to be harsh, but saying that he needed a guide for every level is something that I view as a negative reflection on him that he wasn't smart enough to figure out the puzzles on his own.
I wouldn't recommend this game to non puzzle + platforming enthusiasts, but it's absolutely a good game for puzzle fans. It's primarily a puzzle game, but there is a fair bit of platforming required for the time challenges.
PlayUltimate711 playing Ethan: Meteor HunterParts like these were fun. I sort of worked out "oh hey if I angle this block at 45 degrees it can block the incoming bullets from the left side and then I can pause and place the other block in the way of the boulder so I can jump up and get through that spot and hit the checkpoint before the boulder blocks it."
PlayUltimate711 playing Ethan: Meteor HunterThis is the rapidly move the blocks around shit that wasn't fun since you had to be so precise. The gap I leave to jump through isn't actually required and you can move the blocks around in a different way that doesn't require as much precision, although it saved a lot of time for the speed run since I only had to pause once.
PlayUltimate711 playing Ethan: Meteor HunterThis was fun and clever. I realized I could save one of the pauses by moving the block so it was balanced on the edge and then knock it over the edge and use it as a slide to get a bunch of speed, launch off, pause, put it back under my feet and jump again.
It's a fun game IF you really like tricky puzzle platformers like this. Calling it one of the worst games on Xbox is just silly, though. I see Inferno rated Call of Duty World at War 5/5. I strongly prefer puzzle and strategy games. My favorite game right now is Slay the Spire. His rant about Ethan would be like me saying "Don't buy fucking Call of Duty World at War. It's a boring shooter where you just run around shooting people with no real strategy or interesting puzzles." Well, yeah, of course I'm not going to like it because it's a shooter and I don't really like shooters anymore, but that doesn't make it a bad game.
Of course it doesn't have amazing graphics or a deep story or anything. It's an indie that focused on interesting puzzles and platforming.
