Music is one of the secret ingredients of great game design. While it might often go unnoticed by many players, it's an aspect of gaming that doesn't get the love it deserves, so let's change that.

Thank you for mentionning the FF13 trilogy, and for making me remember crazy chocobo rock

    Below.

This game was a bit of a disappointment, but Jim Guthrie's score was one of the few highlights because it nailed the tone perfectly.

I'll definitely have to try a couple of these solely based off of this list. Have played most but Furi and Undertale are intriguing. Semi-surprised the Forza Horizon series didn't make an appearance under the licensed category. Great list overall though! 😅😄

So many great OSTs. Shame that Xbox never learned that they could sell these on their Store and make a penny, even in combination with their respective games. I'd buy them, I listen to VG music all the time.

I wish Bloodborne could make it to this kind of list someday. Port it Sony, you cowards!
I work on achievements. Life sanity tip: don't work on achievements.

Great shout. Guthrie is another that pretty much always delivers amazing stuff.

Personally, I would expect to see a Burnout game over a Horizon, but there's certainly a case for FH as well. As I said in the article, any discussion of music is going to be subjective, but this is a great place to share even more recommendations — can never have enough great game music!

Haha there's obviously some amazing music across the series, but I thought O'Donnell's work on Destiny was stronger as an overall package.

Even as a die hard metalhead I can admit even all of the non metal soundtracks here are amazing. Kinda surprised no Silent Hill 2 or RDR1 or 2

Showed up to write "no Furi, no list" but I see I can put down my knives. Well done.

I was SO close to including a Fallout, but it didn't feel right to include a game where the music was essentially optional, especially in the face of such strong competition.

It's mentioned in the DS3 entry as I think it's the best FromSoft OST, but I wouldn't get your hopes up for a port...

Some good calls. Though possibly not the best soundtrack(s) overall, some truly epic tunes feature across the Borderlands franchise, imho. Dear Esther has a great soundtrack for a tiny budget indie game. Pity the game is so awful.

I loved Witcher's soundtrack. I probably have 15-20h more in the game because I was either sitting in main menu or wondering through different areas with music that I wanted to hear.

As for soundtracks, I know it's not a Xbox game (although it is available on XGP), Europa Universalis IV has one of the best soundtracks I've ever listened to. The starting song was even played by an orchestra - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99_qehhZUds

Death’s Door not being in the list is disappointing.
