There are a few game soundtracks that are always on my MP3 player

Medal of Honor Warfighter is my favorite :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9KLkDOFSQY&list=PLFEFD0... its really haunting in parts and I can listen to it for hours

Bioshock :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp6QpMWaKpE&list=PL01409... another great instrumental soundtrack that brings a great atmosphere to the game.

For a licensed soundtrack it has to be Saints Row 4. It has some brilliant tracks on it, but the best as far as the game is concerned is Biz Markie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwI1-aAyvMk&ab_channel=A... when they all sing it in the car, cracks me up everytime

Please tell me you at least considered Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams. Probably my all-time favourite original soundtrack. Especially the Machinae Supremacy versions.
Hah! The original score burned in for eternity from the C64 era. Good memories.

This was a great idea for an article. Maybe it can be a continuation weekly or monthly? Since there is so much music to enjoy, not everything will make it into this singular article, and understandably so. Tons of people are already chiming in on it, so there is definitely interest here. Just a thought. toast
Will definitely be looking for ways to extend this conversation, maybe even try and get some of the actual musicians involved. Music is a big deal to me, in games and otherwise, so I’m loving this.
Cool. Looking forward to it. Getting the musicians would be amazing. Just to show appreciation, if nothing else. I always find it interesting to read about the thought process behind the compositions. I think Jeremy Soule had an interesting interview about composing for Oblivion. I believe he had a car accident around that time. Interesting read.

If you're interested in that you might be interested in a podcast series with composer Austin Wintory talking with other composers.
And since you mentioned AC2 here's one that was done recently with Jesper Kyd

I found NieR to be more obnoxious than good.
Keen to understand this better... what exactly didn't you like about it? I absolutely adore it.

I probably stand alone here, but most of the vocalizations really grated away at my nerves. I wasn't too fond of most of the music either, the percussion in most songs sounded out of place. I found the children singing to be especially irritating https://youtu.be/gmvl1xcj04w
If you have to ask, you're streets behind.

Hi! Jake Kaufman fanboy here. Thanks for including Shovel Knight! It totally deserves it.

But my all time favorite soundtrack from him is actually the Mighty Switch Force series! All four games in the series were recently ported over to Xbox in the Mighty Switch Force collection so it counts for this article. Very few people have even heard of this game, it deserves some more love!

Some more amazing Jake Kaufman soundtracks: Duck Tales Remastered, the Shantae series, and he actually made one of the alternate soundtracks in Crypt of the Necrodancer as well which was on this list too! :)

I thought I was the only person in the world who thought that the FFXIII soundtrack was the best in the entire series. I was pleasantly surprised to see that on the list!

A list of Xbox games with great music and not one Halo game listed? WOW talk about disrespectful. Halo has a better soundtrack than 90% of these games if not all of them.

I personally don't understand this at all and this was even one of the tracks I was most fond of because it highlighted the innocence of the village and I found it charming but hey each to their own I guess. I also have some unpopular opinions with certain games

    Two words: Octopath Traveler.
Agreed, I never played the game but goddamn that soundtrack is amazing, it popped in my feed on Spotify, and what a listen!

Now great article! I love using Spotify over in-game music with games with the terrible soundtrack, actually a great way to change the tone of the game.

Nier OST is amazing, or any Final Fantasy game - Especially Final Fantasy VII Remake - One Wing Angel - Rebirth, Holy Fuck!!

Can't go wrong with an orchestral track.

Furi is another game with a great soundtrack, ah there are too many. I could go on.

Killer Instinct 2013 had some great music too. I believe Mick Gordon also contributed to music on the first season ^_^
