I'm seeing the same thing on the old 360 marketplace website but the xbox.com storefront online is showing it at a discount. Not sure at all why that is.
The backwards compatible games on the xbox.com / xbox one store are just that, the BC versions of the 360 game and not the 360 game itself.
So if you have a game on the 360 that is BC, you basically get a licence for the BC version from the regular xbox store, too.
Which also means if you buy the BC version, you cant play it on your 360.
The store page reflects that by stating it only works with Xbox One , Xbox Series S/X.

The 360 store is completely seperate from everything else, it's region locked for example and the others are not.
Thank you for taking the time to type that all up - this was something I was not aware of at all and will certainly look out for in the future.
Tbh, I'm not so sure about that anymore now .. Thats how I thought it worked, but I looked into it some more and a can't really find a definitive answer.

If you take the GwG games for the 360, for example last months Spongebob, I think I claimed that through my Series X, but when I checked the 360 store just now, it looks like I own that one, too.

So yeah, sorry if I confused you and it turns out I'm wrong afterall, I dont know what to believe anymore laugh

EDIT: Also the game in question seems to be on sale on the 360 store now, too, maybe there was a delay or something.

EDIT2: Just checked with the Borderlands 2 Season Pass that I bought on the Series X in the past and I have that on my 360, too. Looks like it works both directions afterall and I had this all wrong.
At least I'm still sure that the stores are seperate from each other with the difference in how they handle regions, etc., but your purchases seem to transfer anyway.
Still good info. It is true the stores are still seperate. In my region the same BC game can be a different price on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One store - so buy from the cheapest! When LEGO Batman 2 was GwG in November on the X1 store, LEGO Batman 1 was GwG on X360 store - so you could claim both!
This is all great intel and very helpful info. Thank you for taking the time to look into that further. I checked a few BC 360 games (Dead Rising 2: Case West, Skate.) that I know I purchased on the One storefront and it does appear that they do work in both directions after all. Phew!

    This digital era is confusing!
I've never had a problem with this, if I buy a game(OG/360) on the XB1/Series store. I just hook up my 360 and go to DOWNLOAD HISTORY and it's there for me to download, unless it's an OG Xbox game that is not supported BC on 360.

I’m convinced I will die before I ever see the dlc for FO4 PC go on sale. Fucking ridiculous to still try and charge those prices for a 7 year old game.
I see posts like this and wonder where these folks were back when all that stuff went on sale as often as Ubisoft games do these days (literally every other week).

Every event during the first year of Fallout 76 was a new excuse to put all of that on sale. I’m not sure what to tell you at this point, if there’s a used physical Gold edition at the shop that’ll install all the DLC for you and cost under $10.

The GOTY edition was on sale at least twice once in October for $14.99 and then bundled with Skyrim in July for $15.99. It def has been on sale more than once as stated above. Putting the game alerts on for certain games is valuable as sometimes I have skimmed the list and missed something, but getting the game alert email helped me find what I missed.

So huge spring sale is upcoming? That better happen soon. It’s boring to check each sale per week for obviously overlapping stuff, also small scale of pc games over and over again

Anyone thinking 'nothing for me' I would hope would have played Mad Max. They're practically giving it away and it's such a great game. It's a great story, different to the films, great fight combos similar to the Batman games, car combat, upgrades, exploration - I'm always amazed at how different the camps are, no copy/paste here. Looks great on the series S/X too. A warning though, there is one unobtainable due to the servers being shut down but don't let that put you off.
    Less work, more play!

I bought that a while ago, but that's definitely an 'alt account' game, because I'm not putting it on my main. Still excited to play it.

You do know Microsoft have no control over what goes on sale.
Microsoft cannot force Rockstar to sell RDR2 for $5 - even though Microsoft own the store. The best Microsoft could do is sell it for $24 by not taking their $6 cut. They could even sell it for $20, but they would still have to give Rockstar $24 for every copy sold. Likewise Microsoft cannot refuse CDPR from selling Cyberpunk for $1. They would still take their $0.20 cut though.
Not true ... Xbox determines minimum sale price upon a few factors, with the 30% cut being one of them, as well as "perceived value" & "predicted uptake". For example, "SW: Jedi Fallen Order Deluxe Edition" is on sale this week for $14.99, but was $12.49 over at PSN for the last 2 weeks. With about 90% of games, you'll ALWAYS find equal or cheaper prices over at PSN simply because Sony doesn't have the profit margin & adoption-rate goals that are put upon the Xbox Marketplace team. The publisher CAN choose to go WAY cheaper, such as $1 for Cyberpunk or $5 for RDR2, but obviously they'd never go that low, plus Xbox looks at prior sales, and only if adoption was "low" during the last sale, then they'll drop by an additional 5-10%, but still with a profit margin to maintain.

Microsoft can choose not to promote a sale. I don’t think people realize that Major Nelson only promotes US sales, and the list is not everything that is on sale in every region every week. When Australia have their back to school or spring sale, in the US the kids are half way through the school year, or it is autumn/fall. I used to publish a current sales blog each week/day, and I would find “unannounced by Major Nelson” sales.
"Major Nelson" (aka Larry Hryb) is an employee of the Xbox Community Outreach team, and as such, he publishes whatever Marketing & the Xbox Marketplace teams tell him to. He won't research sales on his own, nor publish those "unannounced" publisher or price-match deals (within the USA), because he's down the chain from the sale's decision makers & publisher liaisons. He certainly won't publicize deals outside of North America, because those regions like ASIA/SP, WE, CEE, MEA, or LATAM all have their own Xbox Community teams (which sadly could be 1 person, or even non-existent). As such, he's not privy nor incentivized to promote a last-minute or limited-exposure sale coming from outside the Xbox Marketplace team, since the promotions he DOES know about are scheduled 1 fiscal quarter in advance with-respect-to quarterly targets for profit & adoption.

What’s not true? Are you trying to say that Microsoft can put RDR2 on sale for $15 without asking Rockstar, and would only have to give Rockstar $10.50 for every copy they sell?

As for Microsoft taking a 30% cut, when the discount is 50%, but XBL Gold get 60%. I always assumed that 10% discount came completely out of the 30% cut, not that they would pass on less to the publishers.
