Way back in the beginning after they added Assassins Creed II, I remember arriving home from school on a Friday afternoon to find that my queue of Xbox 360 downloads had at last finished. I sat back in my chair not a clue of knowing what I'd started, Very quickly becoming entranced by the story and charm of Ezio Auditore. I spent the whole weekend playing through the story from start to finish. I'll never forget my one and only brief interruption of vacuuming the lounge room at record breaking pace in order to get back to the Animus again.

It was because of GWG that I not only discovered my favorite game franchise within Assassins Creed but I also found my desire to 100% games. It was the beginning of an decade long journey of trying games and finding many great titles that I would never have played on my own. My efforts to become a Completionist eventually leading me to TrueAchievements for guides and gaming sessions for those pesky online achievements that I never complete on my own. At times when I thought I didn't have anything to play GWG was there adding titles to my backlog and even some that Community Challenges and Bean Dives finally pushed me into playing. Only recently in preparation for the latest crossover in Sea of Thieves, I went into my backlog to find GwG had already years prior delivered 2 more hidden gems from the Monkey Island series I was yet to fall in love with.

Alas we all knew that GWG was in steady decline even before it found it's successor in GP and that cancelation was always looming closer. Now that it's here I do feel a little saddened. I'll always have fond memories of GwG as It brought me years of untold joy and I wouldn't have discovered as many games as I have without it.

Requiescat in Pace Games with Gold you will be missed.
I love this post. You summed up GWG perfectly for a majority of people. It’s sad to see it go but its time had come a little while ago. It shall be missed, but it has improved gaming for a lot of people and provided amazing stories like this one. Thanks for sharing, was like reading an old memory of my own with some little changes.

No. I have always voted "it's fine" on these polls because free is free, but for being the last set I am disappointed.

People saying “yes” "no" must be trolls or have zero unrealistic expectations for something that’s part a bonus of a service they pay for
    Fixed it for ya.
How funny. The games aren’t free. You pay for them through your subscription. They used to be quality because Microsoft felt the need to compete with PlayStation, now they don’t feel like they need to. to think a company is doing something for “free” out of generosity shows a total lack, of even the simplest knowledge, of how business works. I see more people defending decreasing quality which I will cause Microsoft to offer worse quality services. Gamepass overall quality has already decreased over the last 2 years and will continue because people don’t value their money.
You aren’t paying for the games at all. You’re paying for the subscription and the games are a free perk on top of that which was added much later than the actual benefits of Gold that are paid for.
It’s called a “free perk,” but in reality it is not free. It’s an incentive that is added by utilizing revenue from the subscriptions. This is a basic concept of business. If a service offers free perks people don’t use and have a cost to the company offering them, then the “free perk” is using money people pay to the service to provide the “free perk,” thus it is not free.
My point was basically that it's subjective, and people with a different view aren't "trolls" any more than people with your own view.

GWG gave you access to a selection of games.
GP Core gives you access to a selection of games. (Arguably much better ones.)
    Nothing much actually changes.

Funny how you talk each time over the reason why they got handled differently.
Twice you claimed Xbox One games used to be yours to keep, and twice I politely told you that was never the case, and provided a source. They got handled differently because now Microsoft had a way to make you keep paying for Gold, rather than a hit and run when there was a Xbox 360 game you wanted.

Just point to the first AAA game on my list HolyHalfDead's blog post - Games with Gold (Final update August 2023)
I guess that would be Rayman Legends. It wasn’t until July 2015 that we got AC4 (which was being bundled for free with new consoles). Not exactly a flurry of AAA games was it.
The only gaming news site I used back in the day, was TrueAchievements. In my memory, it is something in news article back then on this site, that does me beleave, that the Xbox One games where also different handled, cause they tried to get newer AAA games on it. As some companies did not like putting new games in it if could keep them even without Gold. Bit same why some companies not put their new AAA games on Game Pass, as they feel can earn way more by only selling them.
Xbox One Games with Gold Titles Available Now
Keep in mind that, unlike Games with Gold for Xbox 360, you need to retain your Xbox Gold membership for these titles to function.
That is quite short article, without explanation why it is handled different. If use Games with Gold in search on news, even get 0 articles.

As GWG is dead and the 'Free' argument will never be had again. Can we please get a poll on whether or not people considered them Free? Just to show the naysayers that most people consider them Free because the price never increased when they were added as a FREE extra bonus for paying to play online.
    It's more than just a game, it's a passion.

(...) I mean, they were free games. And yes, they were free. Xbox Live Gold price (...). It was a benefit to a sub that you would have paid for anyway.
    lol.
Thank God it ended. Won't miss it at all.
Was thinking the same. How can people keep saying the Games were free? Blows my mind…
Here's how... 2 people walk into a shop together and walk up to the cashiers desk.

Person 1 says "I want to play my Xbox online for one month, how much will that cost me?"
    "£10" says the cashier.
Person 1 says "OK" and pays £10 and is handed a redeem code.
Person 2 steps up and asks for the same thing and hands over £10.
They are also handed a redeem code AND a copy of Halo.

How much money did Halo cost Person 2?
    Nothing, aka FREE of charge.

Both payed £10 to play online for one month, which they can both do. But, one has Halo and one doesn't. It's not rocket science.
    It's more than just a game, it's a passion.

    THIS.

Exactly what I'm thinking. For me Game Pass has ruined the whole Xbox brand. As much that I'm moving to Playstation with new releases from 2024 on - after nearly two decades.
If you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to ask someone else first, I'm too busy.

Going out with a whimper rather than a roar. I'd hoped for something better as a farewell to the service but it seems more of the same that we've had for a while, maybe a little bit better than usual.
Stoke me a clipper, I'll be back for Christmas... Whatever!

They're alright. I feel like they could have done better as a goodbye for the service, and included some more rounded games rather than the specific genres they are, but at the least, these are smaller games with less people playing them already, so with luck on the bright side, we'll see some more additions to the site in terms of forums, solutions, walkthroughs, etc. Small bright side, at least, but I wish there was something a bit more gripping and evolved overall.

just sad we only got two games for the end...not like Microsoft couldn't have put some other microsoft studio games as well.
curious to see if playstation continues to give out games to subscribers every month after this
if you have easy games on your gamercard dont be a hypocrite and stop others from enjoying the same games

Doesn't seem like MS really gave a reason, just announced it coming to Xbox One that way and left it at that. Found a couple of articles speculating, but nothing from MS.

I'm usually the same. In most cases I've never heard of them so I don't know what to think anyway. Always saw them as bonus I just claimed in case I might like them.
