KGI KlikoNL said:PirateRyanG said:Playstation also has more subscribers, which means it has more cash to spend on games for the service. That's why it was able to attract new releases to the service (Rocket League and Fall Guys, for instance) as the player base for Sony was enough to seed the popularity of both the games.
Microsoft has nowhere near the same number of subscribers for Gold as Sony has for Playstation Plus.
But still, you've not provided evidence of Microsoft claiming that the restricted licence on XB1 was to bring more quality games to the service. You have said several times they said it, so proof, please?
More subscribers, nice fancy words you use for Gamers. And I highly doubt it, I know quite some Playstation owners and none of them have Plus. Most still refuse it as they could play online for free back on Playstation 3. On the other hand, everyone I know with Xbox, has at least Gold.
Statista.com say: As of March 2023, the service had over 47.4 million subscribers, a decrease from its peak of 48 million subscriptions in December 2021 (Plus). Xbox Game Pass reported 25 million subscribers in January 2022.
Key.Direct says: As of 2021, there are an estimated 57 million Xbox Live Gold subscribers and 2 million Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.
And guess Gold has more Subs then Game Pass. Can't find anything about Gold on Statista.
There are also games, that came first on Xbox, High on Life and Minecraft.
And further, outside the small snippets from site Holy gave (reference to Top Games, next to Indie games and to be more like playstation plus has), it is pretty unfindable, for example, go look here on GwG or Games with Gold, barly any news articles that come up. And with Google, it is all oversnowed now with End of it articles.
"I don't know anybody that has PS Plus, so clearly it has the same number of subscribers as Xbox Live"
That's just a silly statement and not worth commenting on.
Xbox didn't say that they were moving to the new model for better AAA games. I was an active game journalist at that time, and I can assure you it didn't happen. I just had a cursory look through the press release database for game journalists and cannot see anything there.
If you read it, chances are somebody made it up. You won't find the information, because it didn't happen.
Minecraft came to Xbox first as developing for the PS3, particularly for a small studio like Mojang, wasn't really in their budget.
HIgh on Life was a paid limited exclusive for Game Pass.
