They’d rather nickel and dime the few willing to pay full price than discount them for the majority who won’t.
Corporate greed.
The issue with old content is a sale wouldn't make a difference. For example how many more people would buy the TR Legend DLC if it was half off? It is a 2006 game. The few full price sales will make more money than two more at half price. With that said there is the possibility of a big sale on last week. There is really no reason to do it before.
I think the most probable reason is that publishers (the ones that are still in business, anyway) don't even care about those titles anymore. Once a title has made its commercial cycle it gets out of support, and there's probably no one responsible for old titles marketing; in the best of the cases, the games are just sitting there in the store or there's an agreed cyclical sale; worst case, they get delisted in case of expiring license or explotation rights.
Sale or no sale, those old games or dlcs will just make them peanuts.
Well, yeah. It is very likely these games don't make more than a thousand dollars each year for a long time now. A sale or not doesn't really change anything and even if it did it would still be nothing, even for a smaller company.
from a marketing standpoint If the ips are just sitting there why not put them on sale for some money instead of no money?
its like the ACA neogeo games that haven't had sales for a long time b4 they some used to be 3.99 in sales...guarantee if some went on sale again they would make more money than they do now(I know they are xbox 1 games but it is valid example of devs just sitting on their ips and hoping for sales here and there at full price)
now look at something like the Friday the 13th game...soon to be delisted lowered ro 5 dollars and probably made more money with that sale than if it stayed at regular price
That's a slightly different case imo. Delisting due to licenses might find the game still in an 'alive' state from the point of view of marketing or support. Games from 15 years ago...
Think about it like the stuff that goes into a box in the basement. Years pass by, you rarely look through it, and most of the time, it never comes out again unless for being thrown again without even looking at it.
