    Installing NW via Xbox app and then just launching on console works if you cannot see it in GamePass app yet

    That's just the norm for reviews on the Xbox Store. It's completely unmoderated and doesn't even check if you've played the game. I've seen everything from Temu ads to explicit racism in the reviews. Always report it too, but never seen a report actually lead to any action.

    Plus the like/dislike system is completely abused by developers/publishers. Any actual critical review gets dislike bombed, while 5 star reviews that are just a joke or clear fake get dozens of fake likes.
    They aren’t always the best but there’s usually one that will mention if a major launch issue has finally been patched or have some other detail about which I am curious. Even the “if X game and Y game had a baby…” comments can sometimes give me a general sense of the game’s vibe.

    They’re not great by any means but if you take advantage of the review sorting function you can usually get what you need in 2 minutes and then head on over to metacritic or whatever for anything else.

    Specifically about Neon White, can anyone comment on the gameplay? Are we talking crazy Ninja Gaiden stuff here or something else?

"The Case of the Golden Idol" has a two star rating because of the achievements not working for fuck’s sake, which I honestly find incredibly pathetic.     Should I have mentioned it was the sole reason a lot of Microsoft Store reviews gave it a one star rating? That is very much valid reasoning for rating something with factoring in one of the least important aspects of any given game.

    I think achievements being broken could be a factor in a game's review/score for sure, but not the entire reason. The video game itself still functions and you can still play it.

    That same game is also on the Switch for example, so there's no achievements at all.

    Neon White is great. Even if you think it’s not for you, give it a shot on an alt account. It deserves to be played.

    It’s a first-person speedrunning platformer with shooting elements. Pace in terms of inputs is fairly slow compared to something like "Celeste" or "Ghostrunner", but levels flow well enough for that to not really matter much for those that can handle that. Ace times based off the first mission are pretty easy* too.

    * - Coming from someone who’s top 100 on about four of the levels and has most of the author medals in said mission. Your mileage will probably vary.
