I think visual novel should be added to the game genre . Outside of the platforming everything is a visual novel

Eh. It’s more so an element of the game, and it’s very much a side thing compared to playing the levels. How it’s incorporated here doesn’t really fit the TA description regardless.
Visual Novels generally consist of static images or videos accompanied by text or spoken dialogue, and generally lack gameplay challenges in favour of pure storytelling. The player is usually confronted with choices which determine the branch of the storyline shown.
The third criteria admittedly is a bit of an oddball since that’s only the case under specific circumstances in one specific situation, but the second makes that irrelevant.

Definitely First-Person Shooter. The game definitely takes inspiration from Doom Eternal, and it shows when a lot of levels require eliminating enemies with the game’s firearm-themed Soul Cards

I support Visual Novel. It's the entire interface when not in discrete levels.

Disagree on Visual Novel. The cutscenes/intermissions being 2D cutouts is a presentation choice, not a gameplay descriptor. Team Sonic Racing and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker do the same thing, nobody would call those VNs.

Disagree on First Person Shooter. A big element of the FPS genre is combat and this game doesn't really have any. The soul cards and enemies are strictly extensions of the platforming, not designated gameplay elements.

Platformer as a standalone genre is the best fit imo.

I feel like Platformer and FPS are the correct genres, as both seem to be integral but also an equal part of the entire gameplay. The reason why I believe FPS should exist is because you're literally shooting enemies in roughly 90% of the levels, and not only that, you're also required to kill everything in order to actually finish them (besides the levels in Chapter 11, but that's only a small part of the game). The way the soul cards work in Neon White is that you have the option to fire your weapons normally, which essentially has an ammo cap until they run out, or you can discard them entirely right away, which uses their movement ability, and you'll pretty much be forced to do each for the entire game. It plays pretty similarly to Lovely Planet, and in that game there's a strong FPS element as there's enemies scattered in the levels in which you're required to shoot, especially in order to be able to three-star them, which unironically has the same genre tags as well (Platformer + FPS). Other examples are the Bouncy Bullet games, which are also classified the same. So in my opinion, I would say to keep Platformer and add First Person Shooter, but keep out Visual Novel as it's kind of just a normal part of the game as others have mentioned already.
