Madden 13 Cover Vote Kicks Off Today

  • Posted on 07 March 12 at 22:45Permalink
    Featuring a 64 athlete field

With March Madness right around the corner, EA Sports has decided to gather their own bracketologists and run a new 64-player elimination tournament, as voted on by the fans, to decide who will be crowned Madden NFL 13's cover star. Last year was the first year fan voting was enabled, and Cleveland Browns runningback Peyton Hillis defeated Aaron Rodgers and Mike Vick in back-to-back rounds to pull off a massive upset, thanks largely to a powerful Facebook campaign led by some Brownies. This year, EA is doubling the size of the tournament and this first preliminary round will feature two players from every team facing off against each other. The full list can be seen below.

    AFC

    North
Ravens - Terrell Suggs v. Ray Rice
Steelers - Troy Polamalu v. Ben Roethlisberger
Browns - Joe Haden v. Joe Thomas
Bengals - Andy Dalton v. AJ Green

    South
Texans - Arian Foster v. Andre Johnson
Colts - Dwight Freeney v. Robert Mathis
    Jaguars - Maurice Jones-Drew v. Blaine Gabbert
Titans - Chris Johnson v. Kenny Britt

    East
Jets - Mark Sanchez v. Darrelle Revis
Patriots - Wes Welker v. Rob Gronkowski
Dolphins - Reggie Bush v. Brandon Marshall
Bills - Stevie Johnson v. Ryan Fitzpatrick

    West
Chargers - Phillip Rivers v. Antonio Gates
Chiefs - Dwayne Bowe v. Derrick Johnson
Broncos - Tim Tebow v. Von Miller
Raiders - Sebastian Janikowski v. Shane Lechler

    NFC

    North
Bears - Jay Cutler v. Matt Forte
Packers - Aaron Rodgers v. Clay Matthews
Lions - Calvin Johnson v. Matt Stafford
Vikings - Percy Harvin v. Jared Allen

    South
Falcons - Matt Ryan v. Julio Jones
Saints- Drew Brees v. Jimmy Graham
Panthers - Cam Newton v. Steve Smith
Buccaneers - Legarrette Blount v. Josh Freeman

    East
Eagles - Mike Vick v. LeSean McCoy
    Giants - Victor Cruz v. Jason Pierre-Paul
Cowboys - Demarcus Ware v. Jason Witten
Redskins - Brian Orakpo v. Ryan Kerrigan

    West
Rams - Chris Long v. Brandon Lloyd
    49ers - Vernon Davis v. Patrick Willis
Seahawks - Marshawn Lynch v. Earl Thomas
Cardinals - Larry Fitzgerald v. Patrick Peterson
There's quite a bit I find interesting with these choices. First and foremost: the Raiders. Your kicker and your punter? Really? On a team with Darren McFadden, Carson Palmer -- heck, even Stanford Routt would be more compelling than your special teams unit! Also, as a Titans fan, I'm curious how or why Jake Locker was chosen ahead of Kenny Britt opposite CJ2K. He hasn't done much in the league yet. There are also quite a few players going for their second appearance on the cover, like Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, and Troy Polamalu.

You can head over to Sportsnation's Facebook page to vote in the preliminary round. I'll be sharing my votes a bit later in the comments section, and I'd love to see everyone else's too! Madden NFL 13 is due out sometime this summer.

Also, the blank cover art has a "better with Kinect Sensor" tag on it, maybe there is voice activation like on ME3 where you can change the play at the line?

Since I'm a Ravens fan, I will be voting for Ball So Hard University.
If they came to hear me beg, they will be disappointed.

Peyton has turned it down countless times because of the curse. It's likely Eli would feel the same way...

At least we don't have to see jokes like Seattle's "13th Man" this time around. I'm rooting for LeSean, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Tebow wins or if a city puts billboards and takes ad-space to get votes for their player (you really think Hillis won that on his own? The city admitted to spending a ton of tax money on taking out ad-space to get him on the cover)

I will vote for the only man that should be on the cover ... JARED ALLEN!

I am a Ravens fan, but JARED ALLEN is a beast and should be on the cover! I just hope if he does get it, it wont get in the way of his attempt at 30 sacks this year!

Stanford Routt went to the Chiefs, so he won't be on there as a Raider. And Janikowski and Lechler were both Pro Bowlers and among the (if not the) best at their positions last year. They were all the Raiders had to cheer for - and I can't stand them myself. But for the sake of accuracy... :) I am a Chargers fan from way back, but I want neither Rivers nor Gates on the cover *cough, cough* Madden Curse *cough*. Look at the ones that were up for the cover: Hillis - injured, done for the year. Rogers - dethroned as SB champ. Mike Vick - up-and-down year and his Iggles missed the playoffs. It's always fun to see who gets on the cover and how their year suffers because of it. :)
