They just released new dlc achievements. Why would they do this?

Why is this happening?
The service is shutting down because it was not as successful as we hoped it would be. We apologize for any inconvenience and we thank you for giving us the opportunity to entertain you.

It's possible they could patch the achievements to work off physical rentals maybe. Someone should email the apps department for Redbox and ask what's going to happen.

How the heck do you fail at a movie streaming service?
Did they not have Ghostbusters I & II or something?

Probably related to the death of net neutrality that the FCC decided is an anachronism now. With that gone, Verizon can make services like Redbox Instant pay them any arbitrary, exorbitant fee they wish because Verizon is the service provider and is now lord and master of everything that happens on their service. Get used to a lot of services like this getting throttled or removed because the ISP doesn't want to compete with it or simply wants to be a tyrannical asshole.
Supporter of unpopular opinions.

Other more popular streaming services on the console. Amazon, Hulu, and last but not least, Netflix.

Mobius, I really hope you guys fight back on that issue. I don't know much about it, most of the stuff I know about it is from boogie's videos over at Youtube where he talks about it. But seriously, I hope you guys fight enough back so it doesn't hit the streets over here.

I really didn't intend to do anything about it. It sounds like they've made up their mind on this decision.
