'Done! Unlocking...' what does it mean?

Update: How To Fix "Done! Unlocking..." Achievement Problems On Xbox One

This comes up all too often and I get the question so frequently for solutions that I'm going to make a small guide so I can just link this instead of replying every time.

The Xbox One's achievement system is an always online system and thus requires an internet connection to unlock achievements, this is tied to server(s) and sometimes for various reasons (High traffic, big game release, big errors, etc) the connection to these servers can mess up and cause there to be achievement issues on Xbox One (360 and others are usually fine) these issues are usually in the form of an achievement that should have popped displaying as 'Done! Unlocking... ' in the console's achievement app. So what does this mean?

Is the achievement actually unlocked? - The achievement is unlocked BUT it has not synced to the Xbox database and thus xbox.com and in turn TA will not know it is unlocked.

So its not synced, when will it? - Unfortunately there is no set time for how long it will take for the achievements to fix and sync, sometimes it can be minutes, sometimes hours, sometimes days and sometimes even months, its just a matter of waiting.
Note you do not need to be in the game or even online for the achievement to fix.

My only option is to wait? - Not entirely, you can try to meet the achievement's requirements/its unlocking criteria again to hope it forces the achievement again but this doesn't always work.

What about my achievement streak!? - When achievements that are 'Done! ...Unlocking' sync properly they will pop with their original timestamp from when they are unlocked and not the 'fix' time. However if you try to force an achievement to fix by redoing it it will pop with the new timestamp.

I lost my streak and now my achievement has fixed itself, what do I do? - Go to your streak page here (Found under the menu top right) and press the 'Rebuild my streaks' button to fix them.

What if I call MS support or contact TA, can they help me? - From my experience and what ive read MS cannot force the achievements to fix and obviously TA is powerless to help you with such an issue as this.

Will deleting my profile and downloading it again help? - No, this will not help the achievement at all and could possibly put the achievement's progress back.
Please comment with anything ive missed
Some side notes for One achievements:
No achievements unlocking? - Are you online, has the achievement app signed in, are there live issues? (Look here for tweets to xbox support to see if others are reporting the same thing you are having) or check the new threads list on TA to see if again others are reporting the same.

I met the criteria but the achievement still says 'Locked' - There were some rare occasions in the past were live issues would go to the extreme of an achievement still showing locked BUT was still the same as 'Done! ...Unlocking' but its not possible to tell if it is indeed in this state or actually still locked.

My achievement shows 100% progress but still says 'Locked' - Achievements in this state are still Done! Unlocking... and will reflect this in most cases once your console has been hard reset (Holding power button)

    Side note for Windows 10
My Windows 10 game achievements aren't unlocking either - Windows 10 game's achievement's behave the same as Xbox One achievements as they are always online too.
My achievement in a Windows 10 game says 100% but also 'Locked' - It seems that Done! Unlocking... shows in this way on Windows 10 (Or at least it does for everyone who had the issue with Fire: Ungh's Quest (Win 10)) but annoyingly in this state 99% of the time you cannot redo the requirements to pop it again and are stuck waiting on it to fix itself. You don't need to be in game or even have your device on just like One.

NOTE: Posting here will not fix your achievements

Xbox support would firstly say to wait 72 hours for the sync to happen and then point you to this page and ask you to follow each of those steps

    http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/games/troubleshoot-ac...

If you get to the last one, deleting and recovering your account, they will ask you to wait another 72 hours before contacting them back.

I spoke to a guy in the chat thing and he said that he'd sent a refresh command (or something like that) to my Xbox to ensure the settings were correct, not sure what that means or what it did as I didn't get to turn it on last night. If it's anything noticeable I'll let you know

Quite simply they're full of shit, that isn't a help guide at all and trust me deleting your profile does more harm than good.

Fair enough, I wasn't about to remove and re-download my profile, I have a mate's profile on my XB1 for that kind of stuff
Good to have the FAQs about Done...Unlocking in a single place though

Anything else harmful about redownloading profiles other than on the 360 if you earned achievements offline then downloaded it on another console you'd have to re-earn them again?

Heck, if I knew my progress would go away from an achievement I can easily unlock again, I would definitely remove my account and download it again.

Of course, I can be patient, so I'll continue to wait for the achievement to fix itself.

I figure if it doesn't resolve itself by the end of the year, I'll try downloading my profile again and go from there.

You don't have to remove your profile to try it again, and its not a certainty that you'll lose progress to the right achievement or any.

Hm. I should've left a disclaimer that said I have at least half a brain. wink

Yes. I realize I can attempt to meet the requirements for a "Done! Unlocking..." achievement whenever I please and I have been successful in forcing an unlock for a few achievements. The rest are being stubborn, which is why I said what I said.

"...if I knew my progress would go away from an achievement..."

It should be obvious to others that removing my account won't provide any guarantee that the progress would go away, but if it did, I would have definitely tried it. If anything, I may need to reset the progress in the game that's affected because the progress tracker from within the game itself knows I've already met the "4 star" requirement, which is an achievement. Could be a reason why I can't force it to unlock like the others.

At any rate, hopefully I made myself more clear and showed that I have at least a sliver of common sense. Ha.

Thanks Spilner, it was annoying me like crazy people asking constant questions about this roll

Another version of 'Done unlocking' is where an achievement that doesn't have a tracker comes up with 0% instead of unlocking. Rare, bit I've seen it myself to know it happens.
No God, know fear. Know God, no fear.

Hm. I wonder if that happened to me as well. For example: in the game Just Dance: Disney Party 2, there's an achievement for earning 4 stars in every song. I've done this already, but some of my "4 star song" achievements are "Done! Unlocking..." However, this achievement is at 0% progress:

Just Dance: Disney Party 2Ultimate Disney dancerThe Ultimate Disney dancer achievement in Just Dance: Disney Party 2 worth 214 pointsGet 4 stars in every song in Standard Scoring!

I'm assuming that achievement looks to see if every achievement in relation to reaching 4 stars in each song is unlocked. When it registers this, it then unlocks. Well, I'm hoping that's what happens when my achievements decides to fix itself because I certainly don't want to have to redo them all again. If I have to reset progress, then so be it though. :)

That's what happened for the life is strange achievements, if one picture achievement hadn't popped the one for all didn't until the other one fixed, so yes.

Just another thing I've found related to this - if you're getting that achievement app error you can still play Xbox One games as normal and then when it fixes itself everything should sync up fine or you get a few "Done Unlocking" that eventually unlock at some stage.

However, I've found it's better to stay away from the Xbox 360 altogether when you can't view your achievements. From my experience my achievements didn't sync properly in a game and the only fix was to unlock another achievement in the same game when everything was back working. If I had completed the game before that though...

There are at least two types of Done-Unlocking. The most common is just a glitch as described in the OP. But there is another type due to added achievements.

Some DLC / TU achievements can be Done-Unlocking as soon as they exist, if you've already done the requirement. For example, my
Halo: The Master Chief CollectionNo Pain, No GainThe No Pain, No Gain achievement in Halo: The Master Chief Collection worth 50 pointsComplete 1 mission with the LASO playlist skulls enabled.
was Done-Unlocking because I had already completed a LASO mission. And also
Xbox FitnessFight BackThe Fight Back achievement in Xbox Fitness worth 213 pointsThrow 3,000 punches.
because I had already thrown over 3000 punches. In both cases, doing the action one more time (complete a LASO mission again, throw one more punch) caused an immediate unlock.

As for the glitched type, I also want to note that repeating the action might work even if past attempts have failed. Many people had Halo MCC Audio Logs get stuck and tried to collect again during the summer to no avail. But in the past 6 weeks or so, repeating the action has caused an unlock a few days later.

For me, my 15th Audio Log got stuck on July 19. Another attempt did nothing. Then in early October I read the first reports of successful unlocks, so I tried again on October 11. The achievement appeared a few days later, with an October 11 unlock date.

The Audio Logs may be a special case since I found no reports of successful unlocks until October, even from those who should have unlocked on May 30. Something seems to have changed in early October. Maybe it was some backend work in relation to the October 13 Content Update.

That wasn't my experience. I believe during episode 3 one of the photos didn't unlock, but the achievement for taking all of them did.

I've waited for this one for 5 months now:

Halo: The Master Chief CollectionAuditorThe Auditor achievement in Halo: The Master Chief Collection worth 10 pointsH3: ODST: Find the 7th Audio Log.

I've pretty much lost hope that it'll ever unlock by itself, so I might try to do it again as I need to go through the game. I've had done! ... Unlocking before, but they've not been like this. They have mostly popped after a day or two by themselves.
    We are legion.

This stuff isn't always set in stone as there are some even weirder qwerks as you experienced
