It's fun, it's vibrant, it has great music, it has quite a big campaign and plenty of sub-tasks to do. The now super-cheap dlc adds even more to the experience.
In case you're not familiar, these games are basically Bejeweled-type of matching games where making matches builds up bars to perform skills that either directly damage your opponent or messes with the board, setting up long combo chains that give you even more energy for skills.
It's very intuitive and easy to get into.
You start off with a small number of pre-selected skills but you'll learn a truckload of new skills along the way, and it's especially fun to find all sorts of great combinations. The possibilities are endless.
The only negative I can think of is that, the farhter you get in the game, the easier it becomes. At some point, you're just way too strong for the AI and the challenge is gone.
Puzzle Quest 2 is a...passable game on its own, but a wreck when compared to PQ1.
Basically everything apart from the very base gameplay was taken out, and you get an incredibly uninspired, bleak, soulless experience in return.
(The monster art is nice though...if that counts.)
If you're on the fence, definitely give PQ1 a try!
I can only recommend PQ2 to those that really love this genre, but even then, it's mostly a painful reminder of everything that's done worse than in the first game.
