I guess this is an RPG... I also put Turn-Based and Puzzle.

Turn based, I dunno. Technically speaking the turn based aspect is just part of the puzzle, kinda like puzzle quest. But I definitely think it's an RPG. It's got the side quests, stat building and everything.
Looking to boost any MP achievements I don't have for any game I own.

On further thought, the presence of action points (taking a variable number of actions per round) makes me less inclined to have Turn-Based as a genre.

It's more puzzle than strategy. It's match three gameplay so it's got more in common with Bejeweled or Connect Four than Warcraft or the ilk.

You can't plan far enough ahead for the Strategy tag to be appropriate.

It seems the initial discussion was mostly on point but somehow the voting went differently. With the Puzzle Quest series now firmly in the RPG category, this should be added as well. Very similar gameplay, as you will use a Match 3 Puzzle function for the combat, but level your character and troops. Turn-based is also important, as you are not rushing to make matches against your opponent.

I would suggest:
Puzzle
Turn-Based
Role Playing

Is turn based really appropriate though? Going by that you'd need to apply turn based to games like Puzzle Quest since they too take turns in those games.

Well, considering that Turn-Based is a game mechanic and not a genre, I don't understand its point entirely.

.... HOWEVER. Looking at the way it has been applied to other RPGs, then I believe it suits this game as well. It's essentially a strategy RPG with light puzzle matching mechanics.

Well that's my thing. This isn't a strategy RPG with light puzzle matching, it's a unique puzzle matching game with RPG elements. Your core gameplay isn't taking turns attacking each other, it's using the unique mechanics to outmaneuver your foes by making better, more efficient matches between your troops. That's exactly like Puzzle Quest and that's not a strategy game. I look at it like this, what would happen to a game if you removed all of the RPG elements from it? What would you have? In Puzzle Quest you'd have Bejeweled. If you removed the RPG elements here you'd have something more akin to Bejeweled than the combat from something like older Final Fantasy games or their ilk.

Just been checking through my games. I thought the multiple tags were meant to end issues like this and instead we seem to have a lot more inconsistencies to debate!

I'm will Misfit on this, this was much closer to the puzzle genre and should mirror puzzle quest in classification in my opinion.

Bit of a worry in TRPG that there seems to be a split between strategy and turn based, but that's a whole other issue.

I would say Turn Based, RPG and Adventure.

I'm all for RPG and Puzzle. Turn-Based although I understand the thought/logic behind it the main point of Turn-Based is to define either Strategy games or JRPGs as essentially all JRPGs can be broken down into Turn-Based or Real Time combat. If we add Turn Based to this and the PQ series then we'll need to go through any other match 3 puzzle games to do the same or add Real Time onto games such as Puzzle Fighters, Tumblestone etc

Yeah, turn based is entirely wrong for this game. The difference between turn based puzzle games and real time ones isn't important enough to warrant its own tagging. It's simply a part of the puzzle mechanics. We start down that road and next we're going to need to slap the Real Time tag on Tetris and create tags for games like Hexic where there is a more casual pace soon enough.
