Leisure Suit Larry Returns to XBLA

    Recreated and reborn

Gamers are being encouraged to put the horrific memories of Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust behind them. Replay Games, and Larry's original creator Al Lowe, have secured the worldwide rights to the Leisure Suit Larry franchise. As well as creating new titles for the future, all of the previous Leisure Suit Larry games can now be remade with updated visuals, sound and controls, and brought back for the current generation of gamers to enjoy. This process will begin with Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards. If the remake is successful for the studio, then they will systematically remake games two to seven.

Al Lowe had this to say:

I'm totally jazzed to work with long-term friend and Sierra buddy, Paul Trowe. He's worked tirelessly for years to get the Larry rights and return them to the hands of the Sierra ‘family.’ Working with Paul's team ensures that the world’s favorite leisure suit-wearer remains the same guy we all learned to love a quarter-century ago. I'll oversee the entire production of these games to ensure the highest standards and some amazing new adventures for my pal, Larry. It's great to see my creation released from his digital dungeon!

There's also an "all-new high-def game" in production, and this will mark the start of a franchise reboot. Although further details on this game are yet to be released, the new instalment to the franchise is due to be released in Q4 2012, or "as soon as it’s suitably awesome!". Of course, 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the franchise.

The remake of Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards is yet to receive a release window.

This series may end up like Duke Nukem in the sense that perhaps it was good back in it's earlier days but the transition to try to stay relevant may not work well for it.

That aside I'll still pick it up though

Larry brings back so many memories! Geez, I think it was the late 80's when the first one came out...

I really hope this is done right and with a lot of care. I know myself (and a LOT of other gamers) have very fond memories of this series (and a lot of other Sierra series). I still play the originals to this day. So... High hopes with my fingers crossed headspinclap

I have to honestly say I don't think I've ever seen those words typed in that order.

Never actually played any of the LSL games growing up, but I might give this a try, as I'm a sucker for old point-and-click adventure games. Now if we could only get Space Quest in HD!

That would be awesome, along with Police Quest I, II, and III and the Kings Quest series. Sierra was THE go to studio for adventure gaming in the 80's to early 90's.

I really like how Al Lowe called it the "Sierra family" because I always thought of it that way... they were one of the first indie studios to make it big!!! All the designers of their games were buddies and things were simple before the evil corporations bought them out, merged them, and laid them all off.

Solid read from Al Lowe's own site/mouth: http://www.allowe.com/Larry/DeveloperLookback.htm

(Yes, I know Half-Life was the only thing good after 1999 with Sierra attached to it, but even this came out after the big layoff/shutdown. They only published it, all the credit still goes to Valve for its creation.)
