Been playing Neverwinter more than a year, never spent a cent. No need to.

When I hear a F2P game say their dungeons are challenging all I hear is "this game is designed to curb stomp your sanity until you spend money to avoid frustration". I suppose I'll still give it a try...

If you value your time you have to spend money.

I agree 100% if I play a f2p game and I really enjoy it, I give them 5-20 bucks just to support them and say "thanks"

I spent like $120 on Neverwinter and I hate it now. But it was worth it for the 15+ hours saved over time.

Played for 593 hrs 13 mins
I don't think saving 15 hours is worth $120

But to each, his own.

The problem in Neverwinter is that Zen is so damn expensive, "5-20 bucks" won't get you squat. You need to farm Astral Diamonds and play the stock-market-style exchange.

The way I see it is that if you pour enough time into a game and enjoy it enough spending money on it is not only supporting the developers but also spending a little bit gaming rather then buying a new game all the time. I spent around 1300 hours on Neverwinter and have spent $60 in total. Now I could have just spent 100 hours on 13 new games but that would have costed $780 smile

The amount of time you played is irrelevant. That's $8 per hour. My time is worth more than that to me. I paid $8 so that I could not do something I didn't want to do for an hour.

I do regret it, but only because I wish I had never played at all. Elemental Evil is easily the worst MMO expansion ever released. No contest. The game was a 4/5 before that.

I agree with pretty much everything. I have no problem supporting F2P games if you wish. I would do it for Neverwinter myself if I felt there was ANY value to be had. Their pricing is just not in touch with reality, IMO. It would be $10/month just to maintain VIP and get a lockbox key per day and the ability to map travel from anywhere.

I FULLY agree that Elemental Evil was horrible and ruins a large portion of the game. Neverwinter is great fun during the original campaign and as you level from 1-60. Then, you hit Elemental Evil and things grind to a screeching halt as you slog - and I mean slog - from 60-70.

But, the bright side is that the game gets fun again at level 70. The Maze Engine is a good campaign, but they made the bad decision to force 3 intermissions of 5, 10, and 15 days real time!

Underdark and Strongholds added some good content, too. Only downside is that Strongholds made it so that you need a good guild, and everyone is an item level elitist now.

General agreement with the above.

The problem I see is when money enters the picture at all as a time-saving feature, because when it does it is ALWAYS more worth it for me to spend the money than to do something that's boring/repetitive/stupid/lame/unnecessary. I just wish I had spent $200 on Neverwinter at the start.. but then I wouldn't have known what I would've needed. It would've saved SO MUCH TIME though! And I wouldn't have known it would take me 700 hours to complete. It probably would've saved me 200+ hours if I knew what to spend it on.

And seriously--in what other market in the world can a company take what the customers think are some of the best features, and instead of making other features better, just take away the best features? I'm talking about all the nerfs. In any other company the nerfs would drive people to competition as it should, but with NW it's designed to be addicting, combining gambling impulses, completion impulses, collection impulses, 'new stuff' impulses, even a little porn impulse--so you don't have people thinking logically at the end of it all, even when they're thrown under the semi, driving over forwards and backwards, then waterboarded.
