SpiralGamerpro has registered their disagreement about the genres applied to this game
This isn't a Run & Gun. You stand on a moving platform while you shoot at enemies, and you can only move around on said platform. Therefore, I think this should be SHMUP + On Rails.

Still confused how this is a shooter or listed in the shooters yet has none of those genres. Shouldn't be there but it is.

Yeah it seems like all "on rail" titles are shown in the shooter leaderboard.
    Crimson dragon is another example..

Not all on rail games are on rail shooters though.

I really feel like on-rails shooters do not meet the definition of shooters, there needs to be an element of being able to move in a shooter.

Most of these I would say barely meet the requirement of third person or first person, in the case of this game the perspective isn't even placed behind the protagonist.

Would be best if there was a stipulation added to shooters to separate them from on-rails similarly how they are separated from shoot 'em ups. I don't see many people disagreeing with that seeing as they aren't even formally identified as shooters.

I would say Men in Black is the only real exception as the player has limited control over the protagonist, so I feel like saying the player must have full control over the protagonist wouldn't remove anything outside of the on-rail shooters.

It's not about the character though it's about marksmanship which is a decent part of rail shooters.

I thought the purpose of calling it "On Rails" instead of "Rail Shooter" was so that it wasn't exclusive to shooters.
The people's champion! Well done for an amazing run, and for croaking with dignity. #TeamSporl4lyf - MalibuStacey85

Perspective is key as-well, this game has no real perspective nor do half the games in the on-rails genre otherwise the shooter genre would be overrun with schmups seeing as they are "shooters" as-well.

Thankfully that isn't the case though.

I do actually see clowns point...in crimson dragon and this game you actually aim and shoot..in shootemups it's more about positioning and reflexes...not about aim ..there is a big difference between aiming for someone head, and to just face in the right direction

As I said though perspective is part of the shooters as-well, third person means you are following a protagonist in third person. In this game's case it isn't following the protagonist, it has more in common with schmups which I'm sure people will agree is more about firepower then aiming.

There are no marksmanship bonuses in this game and you are not rewarded for accuracy. You shoot at the pixels on screen they die, with unlimited ammo this is more schmup then shooter. And schmups aren't listed as shooters. The camera doesn't follow the player and instead a fixed screen like a schmup. The two kinds used in TPS are "over-shoulder shot" aka Ghost Recon or the "behind the back shot".

There is far more to shooters then perspective and marksmanship. Do you think DOOM I/II, Quake or Wolfenstein 3D care about your accuracy in-game? Movement is indeed a huge part of shooters, I wouldn't negate that so quickly. Considering DOOM, Quake and Wolfenstein 3D are considered the games to solidfy the genre, their gameplay defines shooters in a way.

Accuracy isn't an issue in classics due to technological limitations not because it doesn't matter at all.

I see your points aswell....and to me a real onrail shooter has covermechanics aswell, where you hide and reload...

I think I'm at a point where I just "vote blank" I can see reasons for and against both.

I will add though, that if games like these should figurate on the shooter leaderboard, I feel they should have shooter added as a genre aswell....having them just tagged" on rails" is confusing, when not all on rail games figurate on the shooter leaderboard...

So then it doesn't meet accuracy or perspective, that doesn't leave much going for this schmup (Cabal shooters seem to be rare so I guess schmup is closest in this case) as the only schmup considered a shooter.

I don't even know why this is listed as an on-rails shooter either, the closest thing it comes to is a schmup.
