Just got a survey from 2K. I really liked the game and gave them good marks for story, atmosphere, music, combat, etc. They asked what I didn't like so I not only checked performance (bugs, etc.) but also other and provided a detailed discussion of the glitched achievement issues.

When asked about my main source of game info, I naturally checked other and wrote in TrueAchievements.com. I knew it was something I'd read on TA that made me pre-order the game. I went back and checked. Sure enough, it was the story about the pre-order bonuses. It had a video with a CCR soundtrack. I fell for it hook, line, and sinker:

Coincidentally, the article in question was written by none other than this weeks interviewee, KBop a doo:

I enjoyed this game a lot for the same reasons, and the bugs (achievements, the lightning, etc) weren't enough to keep me from really liking this game. Some of the bugs and glitches are good for a laugh or two, even.
I loved the little details, like when Lincoln is talking to an informant and this guy calls him boy and then immediately the guy says he means no offense by it. Also others, but those may be in spoiler territory.

Agreed. The glitches are very disappointing but, when Mafia III is at its best, it I very, very good.

I played this glitch free and loved it, very excited for the latest DLC instalment.

My only complaint is the song choice on the collectible vinyl after listening to what's offered in game laugh

The best advice I can give is, if you have the physical disc, uninstall the game and install just the game without the updates. There's information in the strikeout section in this guide:
Allgorhythm Mafia III Combat Specialist Allgorhythm's solution for the Combat Specialist Achievement in Mafia IIIKilled 300 enemies using Takedowns

Someone messaged me just a couple of weeks ago to say he unlocked the achievement the offline way. Also, someone the end of January put in the comments that he had used the offline method.

If you don't have the disc, you can buy it second hand cheaply or just rent it. Ideally, if you can do this on a second console, that would be best. The reason I say this is many people are unlocking the achievement now without any issue. I've talked to both Microsoft and 2K about the issue. There's been a lot of work done and the situation is much improved compared to what it was a year ago. That doesn't help you since you are in among the players who still have a problem. The technicians say that some type of corrupt files--be they game, save, or system files--are most likely responsible. They don't have a good answer yet otherwise the problem would have gone away. Nevertheless, if you can play the game as it originally came out offline, you should be good. The details are in the link I cited above.

Ok, so correct me if wrong:

I have bought the physical copy for this very problem.
I now own the physical and digital copy. So correct me if im wrong here, but this is what im going to do:

STEP ONE: DELETE ALL SAVE FILES EVERYWHERE
STEP TWO: UNINSTALL ALL OF MAFIA 3(DLCS, UPDATES, EVERYTHING)
STEP THREE: GO TO NETWORK SETTINGS AND CLICK “GO OFFLINE”
STEP FOUR: RE-INSTALL MAFIA 3 THROUGH THE PHYSICAL COPY WHICH MEANS THAT THE GAME WILL BE VERSION 1.0.0.3 WITH NO UPDATES AT ALL
STEP FIVE: PLAY THE GAME AND ACCUMILATE ALL TAKEDOWNS( THE BRUTAL, THE SILENT AND THE REGULAR)
STEP SIX: AFTER GETTING ALL THE NECESSARY TAKEDOWNS, QUIT THE GAME.
STEP SEVEN: GO TO NETWORK SETTINGS AND GO ONLINE.
STEP EIGHT: ACHIEVEMENTS SHOULD POP NOW.

I only got two questions for this:

One: Do you have to do it all in one session becausei died and there was no autosave so when i went online it only counted 88 of my kills

Two: Did i say all the correct steps?

Yes. Most people are getting this achievement. More than ten got it yesterday. So, these days, it is the exception not to get the achievement. The experts don't know why this is but say that there is probably some obscure corrupt file on the console. A full factory reset will probably fix it but it is very invasive. Also, because no one has a definitive solution, there is no guarantee even with a factory reset. Much simpler is play on another console where the possibility of the same corrupt is very remote.

BTW, did you just send me a party invite while I was playing FF XV. I would have answered but I was right in the middle of the Ifrit rematch which is quite intense. I thought the reward was a weapon. Turned out the well worn daggers turned out to be one of those badge type special items.

Yes. There's one more thing that is optional depending on how you want to move forward after you get the achievement. When you get the achievement offline, the game will auto-save. Make sure you give it time to do so. Then, quit to the dashboard & go online without loading up the game, Your achievements will synch and you will get credit on XBox Live for the achievements. Once you get the achievements to synch and you no longer needd the local save, delete it. When you next play, you will synch with the cloud and recover your old save file from the cloud. Of course, you will also be told that you have to download all the updates before proceeding.

Okay one more question because this part confuses me:

After i get the achievements offline, ima do one more mission to make sure it autosaves good:

After that:

Do i QUIT THE GAME COMPLETELY FIRST AND THEN GO ONLINE

ORRR

DO I PAUSED THE GAME ONLY, THEN CLICK ON THE XBOX BUTTON TO CLICK ON HOME TO GO TO DASHBOARD AND THEN GO ONLINE SO THE ACHIEVEMENT CAN POP??

After you get the achievement and have a good Mafia III save file quit the game completely. If you don't quit the game, you'll still get the achievement and everything but it will be quite messy. The game will tell you it needs to update and will overwrite the game's global save file with the one you just played offline. So, it's best to be completely outside the game when you reconnect to XBox live.

2. Does the Family and The New Boss achievements unlock on the latest update now when i play online?

You should be able to get both flambe and wrecker early on in the game and the offline method should work well.

People don't seem to be having problems unlocking Family and The New Boss online. You can always check the 'recent winners' box in the achievement to see the most recent winners. If you have specific questions, you can always PM one or more of the people who have unlocked the achievement in the last couple of days.

This game got mixed reviews, but I love it. Wish it had New Game + so that I could obtain the achievement that need a 2nd play through without having to collect all the wiretap things etc,

I agree--great game even with its flaws.

Although this comes too late for you, you only need to get the wiretap things on the playthrough where you flip the racket bosses. In that playthrough, you need the intel from the wiretaps to do the flips. In the playthrough where you kill them, you don't need the intel. You just kill them. Although the wiretaps give you additional intel on the map and in your heads up display, you can easily get by without this data.

My recommendation to someone starting out is to be nice the first playthrough. In other words, you'd keep all underbosses alive, flip all racket bosses, and recruit 15 informants. During this first playthrough, you would need the wiretaps. In the second playthrough, you'd play nasty. In other words, you'd keep only one underboss alive, kill all racket bosses, and kill 15 informants. In this playthrough you do not need the 'dirt' from the wiretaps. You're not going to use it. You're just going to kill everyone. Moreover, since you've already done one playthrough, you have a pretty good idea what to expect and can get by with less information on the map and in the HUD.
