Neverwinter (Hong Kong) Servers Shutting Down Next Month

Loot boxes are not gambling! Every time you open a loot box you win. How is that gambling?
I don't think you understand what gambling is. If a $2 lotto ticket guarantees 0.50c, with a chance of a million, it doesn't stop it being gambling because you 'always win something'.
No God, know fear. Know God, no fear.

I had both versions of Neverwinter and this version just disappeared from my HDD. Did someone else had the same issue?
Happens to me regularly (I'm pretty sure every time the western version gets an update) it's not gone, it's just removed from your list. Once, it came back on it's own, but the quickest way to get it back it to switch your console over to HK again- it will automatically appear again. I've never had to redownload it or anything, it just reappears.

    Top two definitions of gambling:
    1. Play games of chance for money.
Opening a loot box on most games is paying money or some form of currency for the chance to get a certain item, sure you always get something but it's more often shite than not.

    2. Taking risky action in the hope of a desired result.
Every time you open a loot box on whatever game it may be, Overwatch, Neverwinter Rocket League or Marvel Heroes (plenty more exist) you might not get something you want, you always hope you get something good but more often than not you lose.

Suffice to say the odds in loot boxes are generally stacked against you, and if you take the result of getting something you don't want as a loss versus something you are hoping for you as a win then you've got just as much chance spinning a roulette wheel in a casino.
But at least with a casino you know the odds upfront and there are hundreds of laws and inspections to make sure the casinos aren't cheating.
Loot boxes have fuck all oversight.

I've been playing for the last 5 or so months and am looking for folks who want to play! For the last 2 or 3 weeks, XP, refinement points, enchants, guild marks, profession XP resources, and a few other bits are at 2x, and will continue to be until close, by the looks of it.

Please join this session, or get in touch over XBOX LIVE MESSAGE, if you fancy being one of the few people to get some very rare achievements! :)

Someone has actually completed it :p

    Neverwinter (HK) Completionists
DLC inclusion setting shenanigans, no one has fully completed it.
Yeah, if someone had completed it there would have been one of those blue rarity diamonds next to the achievement name.

It will be interesting when someone in government's kid goes on an unauthorized spending spree for Overwatch and Dota boxes. I'll laugh when Blizzard and Valve get dragged before congress.
I'm pretty sure congress has more important things to be dealing with.
Actually have you seen what congress has been doing lately? Childish bullshit is right up their alley. They will end up putting a federal tax and extra privacy restrictions on all in game purchases and call it a gambling penalty.

On a serious note, im actually surprised hong kong got its own server to begin with. Most asian servers from what ive seen dont really have a high player base to begin with.

As I am starting this tomorrow. I will try make my build for Tiamat. Just incase we get enough people. If you have any ideas/suggestions let me know. Otherwise I will just play and hope for the best 😆. Nah I will look up some builds and guides. See how it goes

mmominds.com is your friend. Look for mod 10 builds - those are the ones relevant to Neverwinter HK, IIRC.

Good luck man, being Tiamat ready inside a month with a very limited player base etc is going to be a miracle.

Yeah, I think it's a huge longshot. The player base at this point is, essentially, TA.

Arguing the similarities and differences of gambling and loot boxes is purely semantics.

Anyway here's a link to an article regarding the Chinese law and loot boxes.

    https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/2/15517962/china-new-law-dot...
Not sure about the exact politics but that article is about China, not Hong Kong. Hong Kong is an autonomous territory and has separate laws. The article doesn't mention Hong Kong at all.

Damn that's a pretty easy list compared to other versions. I bet if I did start it now I could complete it in less than a month. But I won't start it.

I think the whole loot box that costs money in any game should be illegal. They also prey on kids. Now if you earn in game currency on loot boxes, that is ok. Anything for money should guarantee a desired result.

My question is what about the Chinese version that requires the region locked console?

What's your question? According the last sentence in the article, the HK version is the only one shutting down (If that is what you were asking....IDK).
