Hopefully more Aussies & Kiwis start playing from this free weekend - the Arcade and Quick Play queue times have been making finding matches on week nights pretty frustrating (8-10min for Arcade & a little less for QP - and that if everyone doesn't get taken back to lobby because a person or two decided to leave) :/

They're not really discontinued, just their events are not up at the moment .

Not that I think it's a good idea to have achievements tied to events

So could you unlock any achievements if you downloaded it just for the free weekend?

They've proven already the events come back again. You people REALLY need to stop saying they have discontinued achievements when they absolutely do not. It's no different than achievements tied to holidays in other games.

Difference is those aren't requiring you to do a bunch of arduous tasks that require a lot of skill, patience or boosting to get done in a short time frame before being discontinued again. Also ain't more then one or two in a game and Arkham City can be easily manipulated so it is only one day you actually have to do.

And yes they are discontinued until they show up again, difference between date sensitive and these things. Those date sensitive ones are not reliant on a server and just use code to tell when the condition is met.

These are more like Gears of War, War Supporter ribbon which as you can tell by now did not work well at all. Someone has to set them up each time and eventually that company will stop putting them up, requiring a patch or permanent events for it to be doable later in the game's life.

Oh no! You have to actually do something to get an achievement! God forbid a company actually want to ACHIEVE something before giving you one!

I'm sorry, but I have zero sympathy for a gamer so lazy that they complain about a company making you have to work to get an achievement.

Do you know what achievements are for? They're for achieving something. I doubt ANY achievement is meant to be boosted, it's just something that we have done to get hard achievements at low effort.
Also, time-sensitive achievements aren't meant to be manipulated (just like they aren't meant to be boosted), it's just that we can (like boosting).
And comparing Overwatch to Gears of War (which has 5+ games) is a joke. Of course GOW is going to get abandoned sooner or later. The developers will move on to sequels. But Overwatch 2 isn't going to be on sale any time soon and since lootboxes are the only way Blizzard makes money off of OW (besides the initial purchase), seasonal events are essential to the game's life, which Blizzard clearly cares about.

He clearly doesn't know anything about Blizzard. They recently patched Diablo 2, a near 20 year old game.

Some achievements should take skill. It wouldnt feel satisfying to know that you and everybody under the sun has a certain achievement. Stop feeling entitled and step up to the plate.

Lol @ people who think discontinued events will return.
Year of the Rooster is the Chinese new year specific to early 2017 and obviously cannot not return.

You're either trolling or a derp. They just had the return of the "Summer games" even though they aren't due to return until 2020.

As for everybody else, don't pick on Matdan just because he's not very good and doesn't want to put effort in for achievements. It's not nice. warning
