3. Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition SingleplayerUpdate notes

Single Player Mode

Tutorial

The tutorial starts automatically the first time the game is launched or can be accessed in the Main Menu through the LEARN tab in the top middle of the screen. You will see Tech Trees on the left which we can ignore for now and then another window titled "Learn the Basics" on the right side. Simply click "Play" to start the Intro Tutorial. It is very well done and starts with the bare basics of the Age of Empires series.
Current objectives will be displayed on the top left corner with some useful hints and tips right below it that will tell you how exactly to achieve the next objective (i.e. which buttons to press or what you need to do).
Your current resources and Villager (worker) counts will be on the bottom left. Keep an eye on those stats while playing Age of Empires but no worries this will all come naturally over time.

Explaining the rest of the tutorial here wouldn't make any sense so just lean back and play it on your own. After it's done, which should take roughly 30-60 minutes you will know all the basics of Age of Empires 4 and we can continue with the Campaign Missions.

During the tutorial, the following three achievements will unlock naturally. No need to worry about any of them just pay attention to the game and learn the basic mechanics and controls.

Empires Will Rise

Construct your first Landmark.

Empires Will Rise
Kingdoms Will Fall

Defeat 20 enemy units.

Campaign

There are 4 different Campaigns and 35 missions in total in Age of Empires 4.

Not all missions have an achievement tied to them but you have to finish them all to get the relevant Campaign achievements. The first time you play the Campaign, you will not be able to skip any mission and will have to finish one mission to get to the next one. It's imperative to note that there have been reports of achievements not popping when loading a checkpoint so if you mess up you will have to ESC > RESTART the mission, do NOT use the Save/Load feature.

In this walkthrough, we assume the Campaign difficulty to be set to "Story" (lower than Easy). To change the difficulty go to Settings > Game > Campaign difficulty

General tips that apply to any mission:

1) Follow each objective as they appear on the top left side of your screen.

~Optional objectives can be ignored sometimes but I will write in detail how to accomplish them if they are tied to an achievement. These will however make missions easier as they often reward extra units or resources.

2) Never keep a Villager idle, and prioritize gathering food.

3) Always produce more Military units even if you start with a lot of them.

4) Advance through the Ages whenever your resources and time allow you to.

5) Capturing a town means killing enemy units and not destroying the buildings, as you will then be able to use them once the enemies are dead.

6) Do not rush to finish missions if you are not ready.

7) You can hold ESC to skip cinematics if you really want to.

From the Main Menu click on Single Player and then choose the Campaign tab. From there select the first of four campaigns, The Normans.

The Normans Campaign

1066, The Battle of Hastings

The very first mission of the Campaign is quite simple, select your Military units and attack enemy Military units. You can attack either by clicking (RMB) on a unit OR pressing (A) then (LMB) in the general direction you want your units to attack (instead of focusing on one unit). Keep using the additional Military units the game provides and do not forget to use your Leader unit's buff (default hotkey W) to gain a slight advantage over your enemy. If your Leader falls, select any one of your units and (RMB) on your Leader to get him back up.

In this mission we learn that Longbowmen counter Spearmen, Spearmen counter Cavalry and Cavalry counter Longbowmen. It is useful to keep that in mind when playing the Campaign.

1069, North to York

The main objective of this mission is to reclaim the city of York. However, you will have to do smaller objectives first that will eventually lead you to the main one.

First, you will have to capture a small village called Middlethorpe. Only target the enemy Military units and do not burn buildings because they will be yours later. Keep an eye on the objectives on the top left. So long as your resources permit, advance through the Ages, build a Blacksmith to upgrade your Military, and produce more Cavalry units.

After capturing the second town of Fulford, you will be attacked by a small army of Danes who will be orange in color. Defend your town against them and then proceed to take revenge and destroy their camp on the West side. Do NOT pay them off as that might void the Counter-Raider achievement. Once you're at the Danish camp, loot the 2 treasure chests there and you will unlock

Counter-Raider

Loot the Danish war camp during the North to York mission.

Counter-Raider

You can now progress through the mission to reclaim the city of York.

1105, The Fall of Bayeux

As soon as the mission starts, you will be instructed to use your Longbowmen's ability to "Place Palings" (default hotkey Q) against the enemy Cavalry that's charging you. This should naturally unlock the We Charge Extra for That achievement.

We Charge Extra for That

Shutdown a Cavalry Charge with Palings as the English.

We Charge Extra for That

In the town, you can build an Arsenal building and learn the Setup Camp ability for your Longbowmen. When you get the upgrade, select all your Longbowmen and keep spamming Setup Camp ability (default hotkey R) until you Pass the Marshmallows.

Pass the Marshmallows

Use the Setup Camp ability 20 times as the English.

Pass the Marshmallows

>>Both achievements are not tied to the Campaign. If you don't get them in this mission or the next ones, we will show you how to do it in the Multiplayer section<<

1106, the Battle of Tinchebray

The first objectives require you to raze villages. Make sure you loot all treasure chests you find in those villages. In the village of Martigny, there will be 4 treasure chests next to the Town Center and 1 chest a bit to the Northeast. If you go a little Southwest of the village, you will see a Monk and 4 Military units standing next to another treasure chest. Once looted, you would have accumulated 600 Gold. You need to burn all the buildings down before you go to the second village.

When going North to the next village, you will see 2 treasure chests. Loot them and then take a left, where the crossroads are, until you find an additional treasure chest (900 Gold total).

On your way to the village of Frênes, you will encounter a relief army and will be prompted to request aid (top right button). Make sure you pick ONLY the Knights for 500 Gold from Elias of Maine, then use them to help kill the relief army. Once done, go further EAST and loot the treasure chest next to the small group of enemies. You can now request Knights again for 500 Gold, leaving you with 0 Gold.

Proceed to the village of Frênes and you will find 4 more chests there. With 400 Gold, request the aid of Cavalry from Raoul of Tosny for 300 Gold.

You have now requested the aid of 45 Knights in total for the Chivalry achievement (40 Knights for 1000 Gold and 5 more for 300 Gold)

Chivalry

Enlist the aid of 45 Knights during the Battle of Tinchebray.

Chivalry

Once the achievement pops, you can go on to complete the mission by defeating Duke Robert and his army.

1119, The Battle of Brémule

The first objective in this mission is to defend your Southernmost city until reinforcements arrive. Don't worry about your other towns, you are meant to lose them. Most of your units will be fleeing South, some won't survive. Just make sure your Villagers are working and you keep growing your army. Once reinforcements arrive, you will have to strike back and reclaim your towns by fighting off the enemy units situated there. Follow the objectives on the top left as they progress.

Once you finish this mission, you will get The Fundamentals achievement for completing five Normans Campaign missions.

The Fundamentals

Complete the Training Mastery.

The Fundamentals
Online/Offline - These achievements can be obtained in either an online or offline game mode.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These achievements can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the achievement requirements.

1141, First Battle of Lincoln

In this mission, you will have to help your ally (yellow in color). Follow the objectives until you gain control of your ally's city of Lincoln. Now we have to be careful since the Siegebreaker achievement requires you to defeat the current siege, which is waiting right outside the walls, before your Keep takes damage. So make sure you strengthen your army and prepare to eliminate the enemy units.

Destroying the camps is going to be relatively easy with about 100 units. However, once King Stephen shows up with siege weapons, your damaged army will not hold. So it's better if you don't rush and maintain Military unit production. When the enemy keeps getting closer to your walls, target the siege weapons and burn them first! They are the only thing that can destroy your stone walls, and do the most damage to your buildings.

Enemy units will not increase after the King appears so you would be gradually reducing their numbers while they try to attack you.

Finishing the mission without your Keep taking damage will unlock

Siegebreaker

Defeat the siege before the Keep takes damage during the First Battle of Lincoln.

Siegebreaker

1153, The Siege of Wallingford

The prime objective in this mission is to defend your city, especially your city WALLS, and urge the enemy to Quit Touching Me! (or you). Again, focus on producing more Military units and upgrading them. At the same time, beware of enemy waves that will come from multiple sides. You could build some Stone Wall Towers if you want, and position a few Longbowmen on the walls as they have more attack range there.

Target the siege weapons first, then make sure their Infantry doesn't build Battering Rams right in front of your eyes. You can wait for Reinforcements before going on the offense or you can start attacking with your current units. Around 20 Military units will be enough to destroy two enemy Outposts one by one. BUT KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR WALLS! Pay attention to the red arrow that will appear each time the enemy is making a move on your walls. Have another decent army in your city as your defense players.

By this time your Reinforcements would have arrived and the game will get easier but again do not neglect your walls! After destroying all 4 camps, there will be a final wave that comes from the middle. Eliminate that final wave to unlock

Quit Touching Me!

Stop any of the city's walls being destroyed during the Siege of Wallingford.

Quit Touching Me!

1216, The Siege of Dover

Simple timed mission. Follow the objectives ignoring the optional one if you want, and always have Military units queued up for production.

Remember: Battering Rams can only attack buildings, they can't hurt your units.

1215, The Siege of Rochester

The primary objective of this mission is to destroy the enemy Keep building.

Advance to the Imperial Age to improve your army, and discover the map to find more sources of income. Note that Sacred Sites periodically provide you with Gold once captured, while Relics must be placed in a Monastery to produce Gold plus other resources if upgraded.

Attack your enemy from the North, where the Keep is, and let the Keep building be your main target for faster completion of the mission.

1217, Second Battle of Lincoln

There is no specific achievement for this mission so just follow the objectives. About 30 Military units will be enough to destroy enemy Military Buildings before reinforcements arrive. Keep producing Military units then go ahead and attack the French settlements.

Upon completing the mission you should unlock The Normans achievement for concluding the Normans Campaign.

The Normans

Complete The Normans campaign.

The Normans

The Hundred Years War Campaign

1351, The Combat of the Thirty

Follow the objectives and make use of the Leader units' buffs when striking enemies to get familiar with them. When you reach the city and have to select champions, pick Olivier Arrel and his Spearmen for the healing ability, and Geoffroy Du Bois for the fast-moving Cavalry (so choose Healing & Movement). Enter the arena but wait for the enemy to charge at you, then send your Cavalry behind to surround the enemy units and use your Leader units' buffs to gain an advantage. You will start with 30 units and might lose a couple in the first round. Before going in for the second round, heal your units, and then press F3 to select the Blacksmith building and research all the technologies available in there. Once ready, and all buffs are off cooldown, you can enter the arena again and do the same thing you did in the first round.

If you didn't lose more than 10 units in the combat, you should know that Du Bois Are Back in Town! and of course, unlock the achievement

Du Bois Are Back in Town

Win in the arena without losing more than 10 units during the Combat of the Thirty.

Du Bois Are Back in Town

1360, The Siege of Paris

Bring your Villagers to the city and prepare Military units to defend it against waves of enemies, which will come from three sides sometimes simultaneously.

1364, France in Chaos

Take control of three towns by eliminating the rebel units, then attack Charles' army at their campsite.

1370, The Battle of Pontvallain

Defend your ally's Town Center, killing enemies one wave at a time. Defeat them when they're split for an easy win.

1429, The Siege of Orléans

Defeat enemies surrounding your city, destroy the Military production buildings behind them (in four towns), then attack and destroy the Keep at Les Tourelles.

1429, The Battle of Patay

In this mission, you have to look for and loot 14 chests scattered across the map to Fill the Coffers. It does not matter how or if you spend the acquired Gold.

On the road to Patay, you will encounter enemy Longbowmen with palings in front of them. Palings do big damage to Cavalry so avoid them by going around the enemy units through the small bridge and loot your first chest. Moving further, you will see a town with 4 chests next to the Monastery and 1 chest next to a house towards the North. Kill enemy units before looting the chests. Advance to the next blockade, charge at and eliminate the enemy then loot the 2 chests that are right behind them next to the wagon (8/14).

Next, you will have to defeat three regiments. Starting from the Eastern one (the Northernmost one), keep following the enemy until you see 2 more chests next to another wagon (10/14). A group of units might slip through and run away from you, check your mini map to see where they're going and hunt them down. Now go back down to the crossroads and to the central regiment. Follow this regiment to the North and you will see an allied village with 2 chests. After looting them you should be at (12/14) looted treasure chests. Head West to the last regiment and make sure you loot the remaining 2 chests in the village before eliminating all units and completing the mission.

Fill the Coffers

Collect every treasure chest during the Battle of Patay.

Fill the Coffers

1448, Retake Normandy

Capture the University by eliminating enemy Military units. After that, advance to the Imperial Age IV by constructing a Landmark and then research Chemistry in the University. Once done, you will be instructed to satisfy three optional objectives. You have to do them to get the Battle Royal achievement.

Do not build Cannons yet! As usual, increase your Military numbers first. Around 100 units should be enough to do the three objectives.

When ready, establish a trade route on the East side by producing Traders from your Market. However, you need to clear the path first before sending your Traders to the Trade Post. (A Trade Post is basically just a neutral Market on the map) Take at least 1 Villager with you to build a couple of Outposts there in case enemy units decide to surprise your Traders. After assigning 3 Traders, you can now go back towards your city and head West to capture the Mine, and then East to raid the River Port. After accomplishing all three objectives, select the Bureau Brothers' Workshop and upgrade to Royal Artillery College then produce Royal Cannons and wait for the achievement to pop.

Please note that each Cannon takes up 3 population slots.

Battle Royal

Field a Royal siege unit with all the brothers' bonuses during Retake Normandy.

Battle Royal

You are now ready to Retake Normandy.

1450, The Battle of Formigny

As soon as the mission starts, you will be attacked by a huge army and won't survive. After that, you will have control over a new army coming from the South. Keep moving further North until you find an ally town that you have to defend. Here, you can improve your Military units by picking upgrades from the Blacksmith and Arsenal. While the upgrades are being implemented, go back to where you came from, to the crossroads, and head East to fight off enemy units at Saint-Sauveur. Now follow the road North until you locate the English army and be gifted 6 Cannons. Treat those Careful Cannons as your babies and protect them with your life!! Do not lose any of them to unlock the achievement at the end of the mission, after capturing Formigny.

Careful Cannons

Win the Battle of Formigny without losing any cannons.

Careful Cannons

Once the mission is completed, you will finally be done with The Hundred Years War

Complete The Hundred Years War campaign.

The Hundred Years War

The Mongol Empire Campaign

1223, The Battle of the Kalka River

The Mongols have a new type of Military unit called Mangudai. They are Archers on top of horses that can keep attacking even while moving around. You will be provided with 36 Mangudai along with other Cavalry units. When preparing to ambush the Rus, keep those Twinkle Hooves at the back as we do not want to lose any of them. You can use your Leader unit or any Cavalry unit to lure the Rus over the river. Once the enemy units are on the river, charge at the Archers with your Cavalry and then use your Mangudai to attack the Spearmen. Just be very careful that none of your Mangudai get targeted by any enemy unit.

Tip: set the Mangudai in a specific group (CTRL+NUMBER) to have more control over them.

The achievement should unlock after you have destroyed the last of the Rus army.

Twinkle Hooves

Don't lose any Mangudai during the Battle of the Kalka River.

Twinkle Hooves

1213, The Great Wall

Who really needs more than one scout? Immediately after the mission starts, send one of your brave scouts to the gate on the East side.

Scout A to Scout B: "Damn, they destroyed you!"

Scout B *breathing his last breath*: "Yeah, Well, You Should See the Other Guy"

Yeah, Well, You Should See the Other Guy

Lose a unit to the Front Gate of Zhangjiakou during the Great Wall mission.

Yeah, Well, You Should See the Other Guy

Use your other scout to discover the road on the North side and advance through the mission.

1215, The Battle of Zhongdu

Follow the objectives; burn things, win.

1240, The Siege of Kiev

Tip: unpack/build Military production buildings and a Blacksmith next to the Ovoo building. The Ovoo will influence these buildings and unlock stronger versions of available technologies and 2x unit bundles within them. Use the Khan's Production buff (T) around Military buildings for faster production and research.

1241, The Battle of Liegnitz

Quick mission. Use your units to attack Polish army before their allies arrive. Upgrade your units and produce more if needed.

1241, The Battle of Mohi

For this mission you will have to kill twice as many enemy units as your ally Batu Khan, but only during the bridge phase. It also counts if your ally gets no kills because apparently 2*0≠0

Explore the area on the other side of the bridge then run back to escape the ambush. Once you get Villagers, have them build a Siege Workshop close to the bridge and produce 3 Mangonels. Produce more Military units and place them in the middle of the bridge (I had around 40 units). When done producing units, place your Mangonels behind your Military units using the Attack Move (A then LMB on spot). Having the Mangonels like that will block anyone from passing through, including your own units. Make sure you do this before Batu Khan is ready to attack after 15 minutes and try to cross the bridge with a Villager to test your Mangonel blockade. If the unit starts zigzagging around them, then you have succeeded.

External image

Batu Khan will not attack until the 15 minutes have passed or if he sees you in distress. In any case, you don't have to wait for him. Go ahead and carefully kill enemy units across the bridge on your own. Do not move your Mangonels yet!

Once you have completed the objective "Attack across the bridge", you can move your Mangonels and tell your ally "Sorry I Forgot a Batu..." (not really)

Forgot a Batu

Kill double the enemies as Batu when assaulting the bridge in the Battle of Mohi.

Forgot a Batu

The achievement could take a while to unlock, probably by the time you are driving the Hungarians back to their camp. If you had produced 50+ units, you could use any of your Khan's Signal Arrows (buff) while all your units + your ally units are in range to get the Jagutu-iin Darga achievement

Jagutu-iin Darga

Enhance 100 units with a single Khan Signal Arrow as the Mongols.

Jagutu-iin Darga

>>If you don't get the achievement in this mission, we will show you how to do it in the Multiplayer section<<

1267, The Song Fortress

Ride and destroy on the way to the fortress.

1268, Blockade at Lumen Shan

Build stone walls and defend them.

Produce more Archers so they can reach the enemies from behind the walls, and have at least 1 Villager on each side ready to repair.

1273, The Fall of Xiangyang

For this mission, you will need to construct a Huihui Pao. This siege weapon has the longest range of any other siege weapon. You will first use this weapon to destroy each Stone Wall Tower you can reach. For the Huihui Pao to be able to see those Towers, you will have to constantly send your Leader unit Ismail's Imperial Falcon (Q) as it will grant greater sight range. If an area is in the shade, then your weapon will not reach it and will try to move closer to the target. This is dangerous because if it moves closer, then it will be detected by the enemy's Stone Wall Towers and will be shot. So always make sure that whatever area or tower you are trying to destroy with the Huihui Pao is in sight, by sending the Falcon.

It is very important that you do not get any of your Huihui Paos destroyed during this mission for the achievement to unlock. You will feel overpowered when using it, but be very careful when you are attempting to destroy the enemy's Stone Wall Towers and buildings. Especially when you get into the City itself.

Start by producing 3 more Traders for the extra source of Stone income. Having at least 9 Traders active will make them reward you with Stone as well each time they reach a Market. Also build a couple more Ovoos to collect the required Stones faster. Regarding your units that are positioned to defend your ally's cities (West and South), don't worry about them too much. Every time you get a wave of enemies there, try to lure them closer to your ally Military units to help you defeat the enemy. What we are focusing on in this mission is to first build a Huihui Pao (or two), and produce more Military units.

Once you have built a Huiui Pao, send your Leader Ismail and his Huihui Pao to stand behind the first bridge (Eastern one) and then destroy the Stone Wall Towers in front of that bridge, AFTER SENDING THE FALCON (Q).

The screenshots below show before and after using the Imperial Falcon

External image

External image

and then here you can see how the weapon could reach the enemy tower even from that great distance, and the enemy towers/units wouldn't be able to do anything.

External image

Now go ahead and do the same thing for all Stone Wall Towers and clear whatever you can from across the river (don't forget to grow your army numbers while you are doing that). Remember to always always always check on the vision range and use the Falcon. The Imperial Falcon ability stays for 120 seconds and has a cooldown of 45 seconds, so you can always safely renew it.

Tip: use any unit to stand in front of the Huihui Pao to ensure no enemy tower or building can reach it.

After destroying all obvious threats, you can now safely start building the bridge on the West side. The reason we chose that bridge is that it is the furthest one from the second city walls, which have a deadly building right behind them. The enemy Keep building in the city of Xiangyang will one-shot ANYTHING in its range. When storming Fancheng, attack with your military units first and keep your Huihui Pao behind them. Afterwards, you will be asked to destroy that lethal Keep in Xiangyang with your Huihui Pao. Now you have to be even more careful than before! The Keep will easily annihilate your siege weapon before you can blink!

External image

Use a unit and start to assess the range of the Keep. Move forward step by step to identify the furthest point the Keep can shoot. Then, get Ismail to stand a bit further behind and use the Falcon so you can have vision of the Keep. Now very slowly and carefully order your Huihui Pao to stand right behind that deadly pixel, DO NOT LET IT PASS IT (see screenshot below) and with the Falcon ability on, Boom Boom Pao that son of a gun of a Keep!

External image

After destroying the Keep, wipe out the other Stone Wall Towers before building the last bridge with your Military units, and complete the mission.

During your military operation, you would have accrued more than 10,000 Stone and unlocked the Explore, Expand, Exploit achievement

Explore, Expand, Exploit

Accrue 10,000 Stone in a single match as the Mongols.

The Rise of Moscow Campaign

1238, Rebuilding Moscow

Another easy mission, I would just advise to produce a Scout and let him scour the map searching for additional Villagers, hunting deer, and collecting chests. The main objective is to prepare an army and defend against enemy attacks that will come from the East side.

1375, Tribute

As soon as you start this mission you will have 847 Gold and will be asked to pay off the Mongols 1300 Gold within 7:30 minutes. However, in order to get the achievement, you have to pay them off within the first 3 minutes and tell them to Keep the Change.

Press (F2) then select your Market, now sell all your Wood and Food for Gold (Z and X), then send your Scout to kill the deer in the South, as well as the deer West of them where your Hunting Cabin is (kind of Southwest). By doing so, you will have already accumulated more than 1300 Gold and can now click on the icon top right of your screen "Players & Tribute" then click multiple times on the Gold icon until it shows 1300 and click Send. This will unlock the achievement Keep the Change.

Keep the Change

Pay off the Mongols within 3 minutes during the Tribute mission.

Keep the Change

After getting this achievement out of the way, you are free to progress through the story. A little tip I would like to give is to produce more Cavalry units as they can move faster and send them in multiple groups all around the map to discover new settlements/markets and fight off any bandits you encounter.

After a while, your Villagers would have already chopped down enough trees for you to have a major contribution in Deforestation (from the current mission + previous mission)

Deforestation

Gather Wood 1,000 times as the Rus.

Deforestation

>>If you don't get the achievement in this mission, we will show you how to do it in the Multiplayer section<<

1380, The Battle of Kilikovo

In this mission, you will get In Memory of Kulikovo achievement once you have fought the first wave of enemies, or even in the later waves.

The Saint's Blessing strike is an auto-healing ability provided by your Warrior Monk units which they activate as soon as they hit an enemy unit.

In Memory of Kulikovo

Enhance 10 units with a single Saint's Blessing strike as the Rus.

In Memory of Kulikovo

>>If you don't get the achievement in this mission, we will show you how to do it in the Multiplayer section<<

Proceed through the mission completing its pretty straightforward easy objectives.

1382, Hold Against the Horde

All you need to do in this mission is to first protect your inner city walls, where the Town Center is, and then later hold off the enemy until your Villagers fled from the city.

Start building a Stone Wall in front of your Wooden Walls on the East side, build a Gate and a bunch of Towers as well on that Wall. This Stone Wall should be kind of a straight line from the river on the East to the river on the North. Just make sure all your Wooden Walls are covered by a secondary wall made of stones. I also stacked a bunch of Wooden Towers on the East side especially since most enemy attacks came from that side (you need to have a unit inside each Wooden Tower for it to be useful). You will not be able to cover the Wooden Walls on the Southeast so just put multiple Military units there to defend that one wave of enemies that comes later in the mission.

Keep producing Military units and upgrade them as long as you have resources, and position the majority of them on the East side, but do not forget your Southeast, West, and Northwest sides too!

You can stop some of your Villagers from chopping Wood and reassign them to build your Stone Walls quicker and more importantly, gather Food to sustain the production of Military units.

You can also request aid (additional Military units) from your nearby settlements by clicking the icon on the top right. I personally have requested Knights twice in this mission.

Doing this, I had no problem holding off the enemy waves as they didn't breach any of the Stone Walls (old or new) even with their Trebuchets. Just pay attention to your mini map to know where the enemies are coming from and burn down their Siege Weapons first.

At the end of the mission, the Mongols would have gotten the message to Get Off My Bailey!

Get Off My Bailey!

Stop the Mongols from entering the outer city during Hold Against the Horde.

Get Off My Bailey!

1478, The Fall of the Novgorod Republic

Again a straightforward mission; keep producing Military units then attack enemies.

You will gain control of the first two cities so do not destroy the buildings and only kill the enemy units.

1480, Great Stand on the Ugra River

For this mission, you will have to defend against enemy waves from two sides; North & South Fords. The Ancient Tower Defense achievement requires you to get 50 kills in this mission with your Wooden Fortresses alone. So first, use your idle Villagers to build more Wooden Towers on both fords, I had about 7 total on each side. Then, garrison a few Archers in each of those towers and try to upgrade the towers as much as you can. Enemy units will start coming in small waves. Keep your Military units far from the towers as we don't want them to interfere with the towers' killing sprees.

Note that enemy units will not attack you from the South side where the bridge is, only through the Fords. However, there will be a group of enemies with Siege Weapons that will come once from the East and try to cross that bridge, so eliminate them if you want.

Ancient Tower Defense

Kill 50 enemies with Wooden Fortresses during the Great Stand on the Ugra River.

Ancient Tower Defense

Once the achievement pops you can go ahead and continue the mission normally. Assign more Villagers to gather Food so you can grow your army faster and make sure you use your Leader's very cool buff, which allows you to produce units faster!

1500-1552, Moscow VS Lithuania

As always; capture villages, produce units, and grow your army.

1552, The Siege of Kazan

This mission is going to take approximately an hour or more of your time. You will have to establish a city and an economy and build an army to get ready to besiege the city of Kazan, killing the Khan's guards (orange units)

For the Classic Conquest achievement, you will need to destroy ALL enemy units and production buildings. You will not know if you did until after you finish the mission.

Since there is no time limit on this mission nor any enemy pressure, you can go about it at your own pace building your economy and upgrading your Military. Because you will need as much Gold as you can get, you will have diligently hunted deer/boars/sheep and accumulated your Gold bounties to reach 500+ (Tier 3) thus becoming the Big Game Hunter.

Big Game Hunter

Earn 500 Gold from bounties in a single match as the Rus.

Big Game Hunter

You can also collect relics from around the map with your Warrior Monk and place them in your Monastery for a constant production of resources.

If you had built a few Hunting Cabins beside trees and accrued 2000 Gold with them after a while, you will achieve a Wild's Bounty.

Wild's Bounty

Accrue 2,000 Gold with Hunting Cabins in a single match as the Rus.

Wild's Bounty

>>If you don't get both achievements in this mission, we will show you how to do it in the Multiplayer section<<

While your economy and army are growing, send a Scout to discover as much as you can of the map, and point out enemy locations outside of the main city. I suggest raiding those outside settlements first, making sure you got every single building and enemy unit in them, before proceeding to besiege the main city of Kazan (surrounded by Stone Walls). Keep an eye out for enemy Villagers who might be working a bit farther than their settlement.

Once you have done that and prepared your powerful army (including a few Siege Weapons), you are now ready to attack Kazan from the North, breaching the outer walls. Destroy every single building and kill all units BEFORE going into the inner walls. If your units continue to go through the inner walls and you see orange units, RUN AWAY from them... for now. We do not want to kill these orange units until we have got ALL buildings and red units first because killing the orange units ends the mission (I even killed all the poor red sheep just in case).

You can bring a couple of Villagers with you to the city of Kazan and build a few Military/siege buildings so they spawn closer if you happen to lose some of your units. I started producing Cannons near the end to help me destroy buildings faster. Your map should look something like this:

~Yellow stars indicate approximate enemy units locations~

So make sure you have discovered the same areas in the screenshot and have destroyed any red building/unit there. Even though the achievement specifies "production buildings" I did not want to take any chances with this very long mission, and destroyed every building I could find (it is okay to ignore walls and towers since I had some left when I finished the mission)

Once you are confident, you can now proceed to breach the inner walls and destroy all the buildings within, ignoring the orange units! They won't annihilate you so don't worry too much about them, just have control over your units and ensure they don't start randomly attacking the orange guards when they get too excited.

The achievement will pop near the end of the movie/epilogue that plays after the "Victory" sign, so please be patient and don't panic like I did!

Miscellaneous

Now that we are done with the Campaign missions it's the perfect time to quickly get some miscellaneous achievements out of the way.

Head to the Main Menu and click the medal icon on the bottom left of your screen, next to your level. In the new window that opened you can edit your Portrait on the top left, which acts as a profile picture. This will earn you Accurate Likeness.

Next, change your Coat of Arms, which is the banner shown on the right side. Changing it will give you A Heraldic Achievement.

Now click on the Monument right below your banner and change that one or just click on the one that was already equipped (if no other Monument is unlocked yet). Either way, the To Remind, To Advise, To Warn achievement should pop shortly after.

Equip your first monument.

The last thing to do here is to view a replay of one of the games you already played. If no games show up under "Latest Matches" simply head back to this menu once you have done a Skirmish or Multiplayer match and replay that one for the Recorded History achievement.
