4. Miscellaneous achievements
In this page you will find all the miscellaneous achievements related to killing a certain number of enemies with specific means.
For all of these ones, keep in mind that the game will update your statistics (which are what counts for the achievements) as soon as you perform the task required (for instance, as soon as you kill an enemy with the revolver or as soon as you use a battery to recharge your flashlight). You do not need to hit a checkpoint to save them. For this reason, a general suggestion to grind any of these achievements is simply using your ammo/batteries to get some kills, then restart the last checkpoint (Start - Restart Checkpoint) to get your supplies back, respawn your victims and grind some more.
Use the revolver to defeat 100 Taken to unlock this achievement. Should be gained during your first playthrough on Normal difficulty.
Have both the Taken adjacent to each other at extreme close quarters. There are plenty of chances to achieve this; one good chance is the boss fight in Episode One (not on the boss himself, but on the minions before him) -- by hitting the two Taken with the flashlight and firing on them with the shotgun when they get close together. Also in episode three while making your way to the red barn (On the way to Mirror's Peak lookout) is a good time for this achievement as there is a lot of Taken.
This is self-described and can be ground at any time. Pump-Action Shotgun kills count for this one too.
This is self-described, but be aware that the Hunting Rifle is less common than the shotgun: possibly always use the Hunting Rifle during your playthrough, so you work on these kills first, and then on the easier and more common kills for the regular shotgun.
Fire the flare gun after coaxing the Taken together in a line or a cluster. A good place for this is the first time you get a Flare Gun on Episode One: three enemies will spawn immediately ahead, but if you ignore them at first you can also spawn another, fourth, enemy just beyond. When they're all spawned and gathered, use your shot on them--or while you're defending the stage in episode four; wait until the Taken swarm you, and hit 'em with the flare gun. Another good location is while you're defending the church or helicopter.
This one can also be ground most easily the first time you get the Flare Gun.
Light a flare when your health is low, vision turns "Black & White", and a foe is close and about to attack. Towards the end of Episode Two: Taken, is a good opportunity to snag this achievement. When you’re close to death from taking damage from enemies, the screen will go greyish and you’ll hear Alan’s heart pounding. Use a flare right as a Taken winds up to attack and would otherwise kill you.
The first time you will find Flashbangs will be during Episode Three. There will be plenty of chances to achieve it on this same episode (refer to the Story walkthrough for a couple of good spots). A good place to get this is before taking to Pat Maine in episode three at the radio station. The taken will ambush you as you investigate the red supply box or squad car. Back away as they approach, and drop the flash grenade. Could also try while you're defending the stage with Barry in Episode Four.
This will probably come natural while you attempt the previous achievement, or just on the long run of two playthroughs.
The first time you will drive a vehicle will be during Episode Two. There will be way more than 15 Takens to drive over during the course of the game, so it should come natural.
Push the Taken off cliffs with your Flashlight, and go to areas where the Taken respawn and use red explosive canisters and hanging electrical wires. The achievement will most likely pop up by its own (you should have more than 100 indirect kills in your statistics, without even noticing them coming). A massive fight on Episode Four will grind most of them for you, since there will be explosions clearing away the Takens every now and then.
Use 100 batteries to recharge the flashlight. You'll find batteries all over the place.
Use Flares, Flare Gun, and kill single birds with your flashlight. This achievement will probably be achieved (or almost achieved) during the course of two playthroughs. If you also play the DLCs, it's almost impossible not to have it by the end of everything.
Inanimate objects shouldn't move of their own accord. Put a stop to this affront, oh, say, 20 times.
The first time you will find poltergeist/possessed objects will be during Episode Three. Shading light on these enemies is enough to destroy them. You will most likely get it while playing regularly.
