Assassin's Creed III Remastered Walkthrough

6. ACIII: Captain Kidd's Treasure

Captain Kidd's Treasure

You are able to start the first of these missions after being introduced to Peg Leg in Sequence 5. You'll find him by the Harbour at the Homestead. In order to complete all of these missions, you'll need to collect 24 Peg Leg Trinkets. These trinkets are littered over Boston, New York, and the Frontier.

Videos for each mission are hyperlinked in the titles, note that the text walkthrough may differ from the video walkthrough. I've included where to get the treasure boxes however, they're not required for 100% completion.

Fort Wolcott

Unlock Requirements:

  • After Sequence 5.
  • Exchanged one trinket with Peg Leg.

Optional Objectives:

  • Perform 3 ledge assassinations.
  • Limit health loss: 33%.
  • Achieve a Kill Streak of 3.
  • Completed all constraints in one playthrough.

This is the first mission that you'll be able to do. From your starting position, you'll want to climb up the mountain, heading towards the right, and then up to the fort walls. When you get to the walls, the first thing you want to get your 3 ledge assassinations, so shimmy left and up. There'll be a Redcoat here that you can perform a ledge kill on. Then climb up for a cutscene.

After Connor lands in the next area, you'll want to hide and the corner, and whistle for the Redcoat's attention. Perform a corner kill on him. Then go around this corner, and jump and climb to the other side. There's a treasure around here you can grab - it will have £1250 inside.

There's one guard in this area, and an air assassination is the easiest way to kill him. Exit using the open doorway to the next area. Then climb up the ledge, and you'll see a new area to get down to. Once you've got to the lower floor, approach the corner and use your whistle/corner kill combination on the nearest Redcoat.

Near where you landed is a well-lit staircase that leads to a ledge. Climb up and wait for a Redcoat to get near. Perform your second ledge assassination on him. There's another Redcoat here, but you don't need to kill him. sp climb up to the top floor. Jump towards the large iron chandeliers. Jump across to the open windows, and into the next building.

Drop down to the lower floor, and scale the nearby wall (with the crates). Use a Back Eject to get to the open wall above, and enter the dining hall. Jump from chandelier to the next ledge. Head out to the next building.

The building is enemy-free, and the bed farthest from you has a treasure box on the nightstand. This contains £1500. Jump out of the nearest window to see a Redcoat standing on an adjacent balcony. Head over to him and use a ledge kill. This completes that optional objective.

Climb and enter the next building for a cutscene. Use corner kills on the two Redcoats, which will clear out the top floor. Go around the corner to the other end and perform a double assassination on the two Redcoats below. This will clear the area. Before you enter the indicated prison cell, enter the adjacent one for a treasure box with £2000 in.

Enter the indicated prison cell for a cutscene. After this, you'll have to fight a Grenadier, while limiting your health loss to 33%. The easiest way to deal with him is to shoot him with your pistol, and then break his defense. This'll allow you to attack and kill him. A cutscene will happen upon his death, and you'll have to escape from the fort within three minutes. You'll have another optional objective to complete though.

Follow the path in front of you, avoiding the fire, until you reach an area with another batch of enemies. You'll need to get a kill streak of 3 here. The easiest way is to counter kill one Redcoat, and then follow up with tapping cn_X, which if you're close enough to another enemy, will start a kill streak.

Once you've done that, follow the (obvious) path laid before you to complete the mission.

Dead Chest's Treasure

Unlock Requirements:

  • Exchanged six trinkets with Peg Leg.

Optional Objectives:

  • Perform 3 running assassinations.
  • Stay within range of your target: 40 meters.
  • Kill the target before he reaches the cave.
  • Completed all constraints in one playthrough.

Start by heading forward towards the shipwreck, and then up the mast to land. There's a treasure box here that contains £3000. To get to it, turn right from the ship.

Climb the mountain to the top. You'll jump over to the shipwreck, and a cutscene will be triggered. Now you'll start on a chase, in which you'll have to complete all three optional objectives. It took me a couple of tries to get the final running assassinations, as I found that if I hit cn_X too early, everything would go wrong. In the end, I had to replay this section a good few times to understand what needed to be done, and when. But once you know the route etc, this is a fairly easy chase.

To get the running assassinations, you'll start off with having one mercenary to assassinate. You'll continue along (make sure not to fall into the water), and come across two mercenaries to using running assassinations on. If done correctly, you'll be awarded for both, completing that optional objective.

It's fairly easy to stay within 40m of your target and to kill him before he reaches the caves, there'll be a fallen mast on the left side (after assassinating the two mercenaries), and you'll want to use an air assassination this target. Enter the cave to finish the mission.

The Ghost Ship

Unlock Requirements:

  • Exchanged sixteen trinkets with Peg Leg.

Optional Objectives:

  • Do not fall into the water.
  • Reach the Octavius within the given time: 1 minute.
  • Completed all constraints in one playthrough.

The optional objectives for this mission are by far the easiest. Start off by heading down the path for a cutscene. Continue down, using the ice blocks to keep you from falling into the water. At the bottom, you'll need to get to the Octavius in under a minute. Just jump from one ice block to another. Slide under the ship's hull, and there's a treasure box here to collect (I'd recommend only going for this if you have t least 30 seconds remaining). It contains £1250.

Once that's done, climb up to the top of the icy wall. Jump to the next iceberg and continue until you get onto the ship. Once you're on the ship, there's another treasure box located at the back of the ship, containing £1000. The third and final box is on the left side of the ship, but to get to it, you'll have to climb out of the ship and drop down to the ice below. If you want this box, you'll gain £2500.

Head down to the indicated location, which is the Captain's Quarters. Approach the dead body, and you'll get a cutscene. You'll then have to escape the sinking ship, avoiding the water. It's not a difficult escape route to follow, and when you're halfway, you'll get a 50-second timer. Continue upwards to the top of the ship to complete the mission.

The Mad Doctor's Castle

Unlock Requirements:

  • Exchanged 24 trinkets with Peg Leg.

Optional Objectives:

  • Reach the assailant's location within the given time: 1 minute.
  • Solve the riddle within the given time: 1 minute.
  • Completed all constraints in one playthrough.

The optional objectives in this mission can cause a bit of an annoyance if you're not sure what you're doing.

Start off by heading to the main living room. There's nothing to be done in the area, so climb up following the given path. When you're on the second-floor balcony, there's a treasure chest with £750. Now enter the room with the v-shaped doorway, and head into the room after that. Jump towards the bar and you'll land on the first floor. If you do a 180-turn, there's a treasure box near the wall (under the balcony) with £1500 inside.

Enter the museum room by sliding under the debris. Head over to the display case that's in the middle of the room. You'll get a cutscene and then have to find other clues, which are bloodstains and a broken vase. If you're struggling to locate them, use Eagle Vision.

You'll then have a minute to reach the assailant's location (for the optional objective). The timer will start after a quick cutscene, so head over to the large stuffed bear. Climb above it and jump over to the next lege. Head around the corner, and jump towards the large rhino horns, then the metal chandelier. Use a back eject to get to the next chandelier. Climb up to the wooden bar above. Jump to the opposite side, and then towards the balcony. When you land on the balcony, the optional objective will be completed (if you've done it within a minute).

There are two clues up here, a mask mechanism and a missing musket. Both of these are easy to find, with the musket being through a little "cubby hole" in the wall. If you're going for treasure boxes, there's one located just above the balcony. To get to it, climb above the display case, and jump up to a ledge. Use a back eject to grab the wooden bar, climb up and then jump over to the small balcony. This treasure box has £2500 inside.

Then jump back down to the display case, and interact with it. The exit will be revealed. Climb over the church organ to the upper ledges. There is another treasure box on the floor beneath these ledges, and it contains £2000. To get to it, jump down to see some debris with a small opening. Slide under to get to the treasure box. Slide back out and climb up again. Continue through the building until you get to the Doctor's bedroom. Enter the gap in the wall for a cutscene.

There are three clues to find in the Grand Hall, and they are the missing musket (you find it), more bloodstains and some bloody handprints. Once you have all of those clues, you'll be presented with a puzzle that you'll need to complete within a minute. Below, in bold, is the answer to this puzzle to make it easier for you.

Approach the Grandfather Clock and move the hands so the time reads 5:50 - that is the large hand is at the X, and the small hand is at the V.

Make your way downstairs and into the pit, where there's a dead body. Take the item from it to complete the mission.

Oak Island

Unlock Requirements:

  • Completed all of the other missions.

Optional Objectives:

  • Solve the riddle within the given time: 5 minutes.
  • Do not use any ranged weapons against animals.
  • Limit health loss: 30%.
  • Completed all constraints in one playthrough.

After completing the four other missions, you'll have a short cutscene (which isn't available if you decide to replay the mission).

When at Oak Island, follow Faulkner to the middle of the island. Once there, you will have 5 minutes to complete four Eagle Vision puzzles. There's no order in which to complete these puzzles. There will be four green circles on your mini-map. These indicate where each part of the puzzle is.

Pond Puzzle - Approach the lake and climb the rocks in the middle for this puzzle. Rotate the symbol until it matches the landscape.

Tree Next to the Pond - Climb the tree to the top for this puzzle.

Small Rock Ledge - Approach the small rock ledge that a small way from the lake.

Big Tree - Approach this large tree (it's the farthest tree in the green area) and climb it to the top.

You should easily be able to complete the puzzle in 2 minutes. You'll then have to approach the marked intersection for a cutscene and a fight with some wolves.

You'll have two optional objectives here - no using any ranged weapons and limiting health loss. These wolves are by far the worst in the game. They're incredibly quick, and I failed the QTE with them numerous times. What you want to do is that when they appear, climb into a tree, as they won't be able to get to you. From up here, wait for a wolf to get near and then air assassinate them. It took me the best part of 5 minutes to do it this way, but it was the only way to do it as the QTEs are far too short. As long as you're quick at getting back into the tree after killing one wolf, you won't be attacked by the remaining two.

Once all three are dead, you can skin them if you wish. All three optional objectives are then done with.

Head over to the indicated intersection for a cutscene. Use your pistol to set off the dynamite. Perform a Leap of Faith to dive into the water below. Swim to the next area, and then start running and climbing your way through the cave. It's a fairly straightforward route to take. When you get to the treasure and collect it, you'll get a 25-second countdown to escape. It's another straightforward route to escape with. Once you're outside, the mission is over, and you've Captain Kidd's Treasure is done with.

Uncover the mystery of Oak Island.

Upon completion of Oak Island, you get a Shard of Eden. Shaun will give you a bit of back story on it. You'll automatically equip it, and it'll come in handy when it comes to being shot at.

The Ruins of Cerros mission was originally part of the Hidden Secrets DLC on the 360 version of Assassin's Creed 3. It's accessed via the Harbourmaster after completing Sequence 5, and by getting the Letter from Lucky Lem from Peg Leg. There are no optional objectives for this mission, and at the end of it, you'll be awarded Captain Kidd's Sawtooth Blade. I cannot confirm if this is required for the 100% synchronisation for the Remaster, as I had completed this mission before checking.
