4. Assetto Corsa Time AttackUpdate notes

The concept of Time Attack is quite simple. You drive and you make sure you reach the checkpoint before your timer runs out. Once you pass a checkpoint you are given additional time to reach the next checkpoint. Eventually, you are given less and less time when passing each checkpoint and it becomes harder and harder to reach the next checkpoint in time.

Fortunately, there is an easy way around it in this game.

When in time attack, the game awards you plenty of time if you beat a checkpoint by a second or two. On your first lap, you are given LOADS of time to reach the first checkpoint. Essentially what you want to do is drive very slowly around the track and reach the checkpoint with about 2-3 seconds left. Be careful not to drive too slow or stop, or go off the track, as you will be penalised points for doing this. By trundling around at speeds you would normally drive on actual roads at, time attacks become by far the easiest mode on this game, albeit quite boring.

So let’s jump into a Time Attack and put it to the test. Back on the main menu, select drive and then time attack. It doesn’t particularly matter which car you drive. The game will have the Ferrari FXX K selected for you as default, so let's stick with that. The track however, we’ll change to a shorter track, as it will make completing 10 laps much quicker. Brands Hatch Indy is one of the simplest and shortest tracks on the game, so select this one and press continue. Press continue again as the weather and track settings will be fine as they are. Once you have selected your difficulty levels, press start.

Once you’re past the loading screen, the first thing I always do is go to the setup menu and change my fuel to the lowest possible. It won’t make much difference here but I never run with fuel consumption on, so it makes sense to run the car as light as possible at all times. On the electronics screen, I changed my traction control and ABS settings to 1, this will give the most TC and ABS, making it easier. Leave everything else as it is and let's get driving.

Brands Hatch Indy is a very simple track with only 5 turns. A right hander, followed by another right hander, followed by a left hander, then the checkpoint. Then there is a left hander and a long right hander bringing you onto the main straight and the second checkpoint.

Just drive somewhere between 40-60 MPH (60 to 100 KM/H) and try to drive at a constant speed so you hit the first checkpoint with less than 5 seconds left on the timer. Once you’ve completed a lap you’ll unlock:

If you’ve been driving at a constant speed, this should be very simple. Speed up a slight amount until you’re about 2-3 seconds faster on your delta, and cross the checkpoint. Rinse and repeat until you’ve completed 10 laps. Just make sure you don’t run out of time before you hit the checkpoint by going too slow. It’s important to note that this strategy can be used for ALL time attacks across ALL game modes - career and special events. They really are that simple. Once you’ve completed 10 laps you’ll unlock:

We now move onto Drift mode.
