There are many achievements in this game rewarded simply for winning each Olympic event in both the medium and high difficulties. As metioned earlier, the difficulties are not stackable. You may attempt these at any time after you have unlocked them in story mode (by winning the event in the story), but for the purposes of this walkthrough you will complete them all after finishing the story.
Since you have already participated in each event at least once in the story mode, most of the information presented here may be redundant, however, you may look here for some extra tips if you are struggling with one particular event. The first paragraph from each event is copied from the story, while the second will expand on info in the events that may need a little extra information.
After selecting your save data, go over to Olympic mode from the main menu instead of loading your story data. The next page will have a difficulty modifier. Select "medium" for now. If you have completed all of the events in story mode, all nine events will be available in Olympic mode. It's up to you if you complete all events in medium, then switch to high, or do each event in both difficulties before moving on. For the purposes of this walkthrough, the achievements for each event in both difficulties will be grouped together. The events are:
You need to alternate A & B to gain speed, and before you cross the foul line hold the LB button to select your angle of ascent. Try to let go of LB around the 45 degree mark. As you fly, you will see some buttons at the top of the screen. Hitting all of these will give you more distance to your jump and increase your points. The buttons are always the same (LS+RS up x3, LS+RS down x3, A x3).
This is a pretty simple event. You shouldn't need more than one attempt in each difficulty. The main thing is getting a good ascent angle and hitting as many mid-air combos as you can (three is as many as I could ever get). Landing anywhere after the 10-11 meter marker should be enough to win both difficulties.
Alternate A & B to run. A random button may pop up, and if you press it in time you will bash your opponent. If you don't, you get bashed, slowing you down. As you near the finish line, a combo will pop up on the screen allowing you to jump over the line. This is always RS ccw, LS ccw, X, Y. This is only neccessary if the race is close, but to each their own.
Another very simple event. I completed both difficulties without even using the diving combo at the end.
Simply mash the button that pops up as fast as you can. The button is random, and may change if you're slow as well as in the higher difficulty. Just keep mashing away and this will be over before you know it.
I have seen many people saying they struggled with this event on high, and there are some solutions out there to improve your chances. Personally I won both difficulties without a problem (extra twitchy finger?), but in case you can't mash the button fast enough use one of the following tricks:
- The coin wipe: Grab a coin, quarter seems to work great, and rub the coin quickly back and forth over the offending button. Just keep an eye on the screen in case the button changes. I used to use this to boost GF power in Final Fantasy VIII. Warning: I take no responsibility for scratched controllers!
- Drum Kit: If you have a rock band drum kit, you can plug it in and hammer on the corresponding pad. This seems like overkill, but who knows!
This game is a tennis-soccer mash up with multiple balls in play. The goal of the game is to get as many balls on the opponents side as possible, while keeping your side clear. To do this, use X when you are far from the net, and B when you are close to the net. If you are between the net and the first line, simply run the ball back behind the line before kicking, as your shot will just deflect off the net anyway. A flashing toadball will show up on your side from time to time. Make sure to kick these flashing balls onto the opponents half ASAP, because you will take a score reduction if they explode on your side.
This event is pretty simple, but you may get unlucky in hard mode once or twice before you get it. In hard, the opponent will get balls back onto your side much more often, so you need to be quick, and really keep an eye out for the exploding toadballs.
King of the Arena
In this event, you get to beat up on a bunch of Romans while facing off against a computer opponent. As with most fighting in this game, the most effective way to rack up points is by spinning Romans over your head. Try to hit the Romans near your opponent, taking away their possible targets and making it easier to win. Every now and then, targets will show up around the perimeter of the Ring. Since you're already spinning Romans about, be sure to thrown a few into the targets to nab some extra points. The only warning is not to go to near the edge, as falling off will cause you to loose the round.
Like toadball, this may just take a couple of tries before you complete the high difficulty. Just keep spinning and whipping Romans, and really look for the targets as they come up. Often, if the CPU was a distance away from me, I would thrown my Roman into his midst to steal some points. Really just bash as fast as you can, and for gods sake, don't fall off the side.
A very simple event. Hit LB to pick up the hammer, and then rotate the LS as quickly as possible until your speed in near its maximum. Continue to rotate the LS and try to relead LB when the direction is in the green zone for maximum power.
This event is another simple one. The main factor is your aim on the release. If you get it dead center, the nail will pound straight in, but if your aim is off the nail will bend and take away points. Also, don't stop rotating the LS when you let go of LB, or else you will lose a tiny bit of speed.
This has alot of similar techniques to it as previous rounds do, the main thing being different is the pre-throw stretches. A pattern of buttons will show up on your screen, try to complete as many cycles of these as you can before you have to start running. Then alternate A & B to run down the track, and hold the LB a bit before the foul line (give yourself some space, the first white line is the foul line, not the thick white land after the sand). Release LB in the green zone (around 45 degrees again) to throw the javelin. While the javelin is in the air, use LS to direct the javelin through as many clouds as possible, increasing your score.
Very similar in many ways to the hammer throw event. The stretches are really important here, so get as many in as you possibly can (I got 6 or so). Angle of release is obviously important as well. It may take a couple tries, but this event shouldnt take too much effort.
Javelin Winner (High)
Win the javelin event in Olympic Mode on High difficulty to unlock this achievement.
I really don't have to go into depth here, as you've already done several of these throughout the game. The only difference here is that you are competing against the CPU. Use dash (B) to reach each coloured Roman as quickly as possible, and if you can keep an eye on your opponents note, try to steal the Roman they need in order to slow them down. This one sometimes needs a little luck, but should only take a few tries to complete.
As stated, this event may take some luck on hard, but shouldn't pose to much of a problem. The most important thing is to not hit the wrong colour, thereby reseting your tune. If two Romans are close together, consider pausing until they part to make your strike.
The final event! While the chariot race was not an official event during the story mode, you did partake in two races. This may take a couple tries, especially in hard mode, but just like against Brutus and Doctormabus, avoid the crates, push your opponent into crates, and grab bonus boxes as often as you can.
That's it! The Olympic events are complete and so is the game. I hope you enjoyed your journey, and you have another 1000g to show for it.
