Chapter 3 begins in the Orchard, and again, we have two plants to collect: Pixie Tears and Wolfglove.
Follow the path and look to your right. You'll see a small greenhouse. Open the door and inside you will find the Pixie Tears seeds. Pick them up, turn around and read the Pot Notes on soil additives. Note that the type of pot we use requires 97g. Head back out and into the large shelter opposite where there is a microscope. Interact with the Chloroplasts Book on the small table. From this, we find that not all plants have these organelles, and require sugar in soil.
Open the case of slides next to the microscope and select the one that's third from the right - the Pixie Tears Microscope Slide. Turn left and head towards the blue wooden door. Open it to progress into the Cider Garden. Follow the path into the covered area with the table. On the bench to the side, read the Apple Blending sheet. There is only one combination of apples that will yield 97g of sugar: Knobby Russet, Seymour's Delight and Bitter Greenstreak.
Head left to the Cider Apples poster, your final clue for the Pixie Tears.
Pixie Tears clues:
- Pot Notes (Orchard - greenhouse)
- Iodine Bottle (Orchard - shelter)
- Chloroplasts book (Orchard - shelter)
- Microscope Slides (Orchard - shelter)
- Apple Blending (Cider Garden)
- Cider Apples poster (Cider Garden
Using the poster, you can identify the three apples needed. The Knobby Russet is near the Apple Blending sheet. The other two are in the wooden crate to the right of the poster. Pick them up one at a time and place them on the Apple Press.
Run back into the Orchard to the Planting Station. Fill a pot with soil, plant the Pixie Tear seed and water it. Grab the pot and place it in the saucer in front of the Apple Press, then turn the handle.
Transfer your new bloom to the Flower Room as before, then return to the Orchard. Follow the path and head to the table on the left. Read the Nursery Rhyme book for your first Wolfglove clue. Continue along the path and into the covered structure on the left. Head to the end and you'll find a book sitting on a wooden crate next to a letter. Read the book (Priest Holes) and the Letter from Historian. These are Chapter 3 clues, but not Wolfglove clues. You'll find that they appear in the section at the end of the chapter, but can't be selected as clues for either flower.
Walk out of the shelter and continue up the path very briefly to a table on the lawn to the left. Read the Letter From Builder which is a Wolfglove clue. Continue all the way up the stairs (ignore the tower for now) and to the top.
Open the glass doors and walk inside. Follow the walkway all the way around as far as it goes to locate the Letter From Natty and Envelope With Stamp. Double back toward the unopened door and grab the Painting Room Key from the bowl. Open the doors and turn right, back into the corridor with the Painting Room and Kitchen. Unlock the Painting Room door and enter. Walk to the "in progress" Botanical Painting in the middle of the room and interact with it. You'll need this for the Art Lover achievement.
Walk to the window and read the Symbology Book, another clue that's not related to a flower. On the wall next to the flower, examine the Manor Floorplan and note the construction date of 1593. Walk to the kitchen and look at the Religious Blessing on the wall (with two candles under it) which informs you that "the year of construction ... is the key". With this in mind, turn left and enter the pantry, go down the steps and examine the Mysterious Symbol at the top of the shelves. Remember the book from the Painting Room? This symbol relates to Catholicism... and we're looking for a Priest Hole!
Turn to the weights at the side and select, then place in order, the ones for 1oz, 5oz, 9oz and 3oz - 1593, the year the house was built.
Go through the passage until you find the door which opens into a sleeping area. Do a quick U-turn and look on the chest next to the bed. Grab the Tufted Duck and we're halfway to that achievement.
Go up the stairs, open the door and collect the Wolfglove Seeds. Don't worry that the door closes behind you!
Turn left and open the coin case that's under the photo. Select the middle Souvenir Coin. Recognize the ram's head from the stamp on the envelope? If you rotate the coin, you'll see that it's from the Weisshorn in Switzerland.
Walk to the corner and interact with the planks that are against the wall to repair the stairs and get another achievement.
Head up the repaired stairs and back outside. Look on the table at the Alpine Exploration leaflet and the Tower Wind Research next to it. These complete the clues for the Wolfglove.
Wolfglove clues:
- Nursery Rhyme book (Orchard)
- Letter From Builder (Old Tower)
- Letter About Alps (Orangery)
- Envelope With Stamp (Orangery)
- Coin Collection (Orangery)
- Alpine Weather (Orangery)
- Tower Wind Research (Orangery)
On the back of the Alpine Exploration sheet are some wind speeds and pressures. For Mount Weisshorn, we want a wind speed of 40 f/s. Flick through the book and you'll find that Test 5/6 generates that wind speed. Note the shutters:
- Floor 5 closed
- Floor 4 both open
- Floor 3 both open
- Floor 2 both closed
- Floor 1 right only open (if viewed from inside)
Turn around, plant and water your Wolfglove, then carry it down the stairs and into the Old Tower. Place it on the saucer. Hit the lever to move up to Floor 1 and open the right-hand shutter. Hit the lever for Floor 2, then again for Floor 3. Open both shutters. Hit the lever for Floor 4 and again, open both shutters.
There's one more achievement here. Hit the lever to go up to the Fifth floor.
Go all the way back down, grab the flower and deposit it on a saucer in the Flower Room, then head to the Gatehouse for another delivery. This time it's a letter, a clue as to how to open the Letter Lock at the top of the Grand Staircase. It is the three initials of Elizabeth's name. We have "E," we just need the other two!
Return to the house and into the main hall. Look at the note under the Family Tree, which tells you that the surnames of ladies are displayed as maiden names. Arabella (you) are at the bottom, with your sister Elizabeth Ann to the left. Note that she is married to Arthur Hopgood, so the combination is "EAH" (Elizabeth Ann Hopgood).
Climb the stairs, interact with the lock, and enter the combination.
Open the door, turn right, and open the next one... welcome to Chapter 4!
