Ah, to return to the 90s...where arcades were not yet dead and walking sidewaya jacking up fools was enough for a good time. And one of the masters of that genre at the time was Capcom, who milked the concept with such vigor that cows got jealous. They werent Sega or Konami, but Capcom knew how to churn out these games.
And now we got a collection of their hits. Its got their hits, like Knights of the Round and Final Fight. It also contains a collection of, uh, non hits. Is anybody familiar with Battle Circuit? Warriors of Fate? I know I heard of Captain Commando, but I have never seen it in person. Might as well claim it is Polybius.
The games are arcade perfect. The sounds are perfect. Controls are perfect. The games simply cannot be done better. If you want to know how it felt to play Armored Warriors, then yup, you will certainly know. In case you were wondering, you will likely feel sadness playing it. As you will feel with almost all of the titles here.
See, they just arent fun. If you dont have fondness for the source material, this game is rough going. Side scrolling beat em ups have aged as poorly as any gwme genre I can think of, largely because they are insanely dull. There is so little variation beyond the avatars.
This game is fine if you play one title a day. 30 or so minutes can be grinded through. But if you do multiple...man, you will not be loving life. Id rather re watch the Super Bowl than do that. 3 games in a day violates the Hague Conventions.
I give it 2.5 becauxe it is technically proficient but just not good anyway.
