2. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive General hints and tips

Within Counter Strike: Global Offensive, there are four different map types:

Defuse: The Terrorists are required to plant a bomb at a designated bomb site. There are usually two bomb sites to choose from. If a bomb is successfully blown, the Terrorists win. If the bomb is defused by a Counter Terrorist, then they will win. Teams can also win by eliminating the enemy team.

Hostage Rescue: The Counter Terrorists are required to rescue a group of civilians (usually four) being held hostage by the Terrorist team. If the Counter Terrorists fail to rescue all of the hostages left alive within the time limit, they will lose. If all hostages are killed, the round will then be decided by process of elimination. Teams can also win by eliminating the enemy team.

Arms Race: Players are required to earn a kill with each weapon. Once a player earns one kill with their weapon they will be “promoted” to the next weapon. Starting with the pistols, through to the machine guns, and ending on the knife. The first player to earn kills with all of the weapons will win. This is the same as the popular “Gun Game” mod for Counter Strike 1.6 (and can also be found in the newer Call of Duty games).

Demolition: This mode is a hybrid of both the Defuse and Arms Race game modes. Each player start with the same, randomly chosen weapon. If they earn a kill with this weapon, they will earn a new, less powerful weapon the next round. Defuse rules apply for this game mode. After 10 rounds, the teams will switch sides. The first team to 11 wins will be the victor.

Killing hostages.
Killing a teammate.

Hints

Crouching while shooting will improve your accuracy. Your reticule is a good instrument of telling you how accurate your gun will be – The smaller, the better.

Listen out for footsteps to hear your enemies approaching, especially when they’re out of sight. Conversely, make sure you make use of the walk feature (by not pushing fully on the thumbstick), so as to not give away your own position.

Use short bursts. The recoil in this game is very difficult to control, so using short bursts of fire instead of the spray tactic will be a lot more beneficial.

Buy armor. It is imperative as it will absorb a lot more damage than without it. You may be able to withstand a headshot from a weaker gun if you have a helmet on.

Find a gun you like and stick with it. Although there are medals for killing X amount of enemies with each gun, try and find a particular gun that you prefer as you will find yourself a lot more efficient with it. Trying to master every gun is possible, but very time consuming. The more popular guns are the M4A1 (CT), AK-47 (T) and AWP Sniper Rifle.

Switch to the pistol rather than reloading. If you run out of ammo before you've killed your adversary, instead of waiting for the reload, press your Y button and get that pistol out.

Aim for the head. This is true of any Shooter game and doesn't really need to be said any more than this. Even a pistol can get you a one-shot kill if you aim for their noggin.
